Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?
When I first read the question, what came to mind was the collections I USED to have. Troll dolls, for instance. I had all the "international" ones, and each time I'd get a new one, I'd do some research on the country and give them a customary name. (yeah, my geekiness started showing early, didn't it?)
I also used to have a collection of "Special Edition" pop cans. It started because of the Star Wars Pepsi cans, and after I'd gotten all of those, I kept anything that wasn't standard issue and appealed to me.
I had a nice little collection of miniature animals-- my own "glass menagerie," if you will. I seem to remember holiday issues of Home Interior bears being the centerpiece for that one. (An example here
.) There were also dogs, cats, mice, and bunnies. I had a special shadow-box type shelf that my grandpa made me to keep them in.
What else? I had a shelf lined with pretty liquor bottles. Most of those have been thrown out, but I did keep the Whaler's vanilla rum because the label was so pretty.
Oh, and shot glasses. My initial intention was to buy a shot glass (or, barring that, some other type of specialty glass) from every city I visited. I lost most of them when I moved back to the States, and I think a couple broke, as well.
Good gracious. I sound like a hoarder. It's worth noting that I don't have ANY of those anymore. :)
What I DO have now is Faerie Glen
figurines. They're packed away in a box at the moment, though. I love fairy tales and fantasy, and these go quite nicely with the fantasy books I've acquired over the years.
Speaking of which, I'll eventually get all of Andrew Lang's colored fairy books. There are twelve total, and I have three right now-- The Blue Fairy Book, The Red Fairy Book, and the Yellow Fairy Book.
