Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?

I've collected a lot of things in my life. Mostly stickers -my God, did I spent money in chewing gum just to get its sticker-, but stones too. Later I collected dolphin-themed stuff and then dragon stuff. I've collected plushies. Then I became a earing freak. I've collected weapons too, mostly daggers -and a whip-, but I don't collect that anymore since they are very expensive.

Right now, the only things I collect are shot glasses and RPG dices. Why? Well, shot glasses are cute little things that are perfect as souvenirs. And the dices... no RPG player that values him/herself has enough dices. Ever. Plus, so shiny! So many colors and combinations! So many shapes! And maybe, just maybe, that new dice would be THE ONE, the perfect dice that gives always the perfect result and never, never fails you. There is a chance that perfect dice exists, right? RIGHT?

Коллекционирую инородные предметы, которые нахожу в купленных продуктах. Зачем собираю - не знаю, вдруг какая гайка в хозяйстве пригодится. В прошлом году в китайском рисе зуб нашла – крупный, явно не китайский.

When I first read the question, what came to mind was the collections I USED to have. Troll dolls, for instance. I had all the "international" ones, and each time I'd get a new one, I'd do some research on the country and give them a customary name. (yeah, my geekiness started showing early, didn't it?)

I also used to have a collection of "Special Edition" pop cans. It started because of the Star Wars Pepsi cans, and after I'd gotten all of those, I kept anything that wasn't standard issue and appealed to me.

I had a nice little collection of miniature animals-- my own "glass menagerie," if you will. I seem to remember holiday issues of Home Interior bears being the centerpiece for that one. (An example here.) There were also dogs, cats, mice, and bunnies. I had a special shadow-box type shelf that my grandpa made me to keep them in.

What else? I had a shelf lined with pretty liquor bottles. Most of those have been thrown out, but I did keep the Whaler's vanilla rum because the label was so pretty.

Oh, and shot glasses. My initial intention was to buy a shot glass (or, barring that, some other type of specialty glass) from every city I visited. I lost most of them when I moved back to the States, and I think a couple broke, as well.

Good gracious. I sound like a hoarder. It's worth noting that I don't have ANY of those anymore. :)

What I DO have now is Faerie Glen figurines. They're packed away in a box at the moment, though. I love fairy tales and fantasy, and these go quite nicely with the fantasy books I've acquired over the years.

Speaking of which, I'll eventually get all of Andrew Lang's colored fairy books. There are twelve total, and I have three right now-- The Blue Fairy Book, The Red Fairy Book, and the Yellow Fairy Book.

I collect fortunes from fortune cookies... well kinda. I honestly don't know where they all are, but I have a lot of them. I don't know why I started either. I just started saving them because they're really funny and meaningful sometimes. My mom and I go to Chinese buffets a lot.

Umm, yes? Cute yellow duck. It all started when I watched Musical of Tennis no Oujisama Dream Live 2nd. Atsushi was brought stuffed duck. And I fell in love with it. Originally I just want to have that duck. But while searching for it, I realized that duck is not as easy to spot as bear. So, I somewhat obsessed with cute yellow duck from that moment on (u.u).

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

The why should be obvious.

"Someone come and, someone come and save my life; maybe I'll sleep when I am dead but now it's like the night is taking sides."

"And now my dreams are nothing like they were meant to be, and I'm breaking down, I think I'm breaking down."

"I've become the simple souvenir of someone's guilt; like the sea, I'm constantly changing from calm to ill; madness fills my heart and soul as if the great divide could swallow me whole, oh how I'm breaking down."

Someday I will get Madness fills my heart and soul as if the great divide could swallow me whole, oh how I'm breaking down inked on me, alongside "Memory is the key" in the shape of a key, somewhere on my body.

Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?

I am in the business of collecting books, movies, friends, and secrets. I started collecting books, specifically the "Series of Unfortunate Events" series and the "Animorphs" series when I was younger. I avidly collected the "Animorphs" books when I was around ten or eleven, and I still love the series and am trying to complete it. I started collecting the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books shortly after the movie came out and I started reading the series. I still don't have all of them, but I'm also looking to complete the series. I bought the last book shortly after it came out, and it's one of my favourites. :) I have a crap ton of movies, also. My own personal collection isn't very large by adult standards, but I'd say that for a teen I have a pretty decently sized movie collection. Horror movies, comedies, musicals, romance; you name it, I have it. Mostly. :P I have a lot of friends, it seems, and I like to think of them as my own little army. I collect them and love them dearly. :) I also have collected many secrets, both my own and those of others. It's amazing, the amount of information I know about several different people, and nobody else has any clue that I know all of this stuff about these people. I don't tell, of course, because secrets are secrets. They just become part of my collection until the right time presents itself and I am asked by the secret-giver to reveal said secret. The end.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

I think it's: "Don't worry even if things end up a bit too heavy, we'll all float on alright." It's from the song "Float On" by Modest Mouse.

I think my college years have been the hardest and they've really worn me out emotionally and physically. On top of hitting the books every day and studying PLUS working on top of the typical, angsty college drama/self-discovery, I had two family members pass away and found out another two (plus my best friend's dad) had cancer. My mom just kinda left for two years and started doing meth in addition and we lost our house because more money was owed on it (since it flooded and we didn't have flood insurance...we live in the desert, go figure). I gained 20 lbs. I was unemployed for a month and a half and was fired unfairly. My car got totaled. A bunch of shit. But these lyrics really stuck in my head, even when I felt like giving up and leaving school and sleeping on my aunt's couch just so I could breathe. It's been rough. But you know what? Life goes on. I think this song really comforted me after my dad died, since he was unable to anymore. It was a musical "hug" and a notion that everything will be alright.

Gloves.
I had always wanted something to collect. Stamps were boring. Most other items of interest to me were far far out of my price range. One day while strolling through a giant antique store I found an open jewelry box with merchandise overflowing. Everywhere I looked, every room looked like something someone had just left. It was less like a store but more like rooms you would find in an elderly family member's residence. A large dark sleigh-bed was decorated with sky blue bedding. It caught my eye. On this bed there a few items, a few trinkets cluttering up the spread. There I took a sit, and looked around the room, as if I was an actor instead of a patron. As I was getting into the mood of character I saw draped over the end of the bed frame, a single pair of lace lady's gloves. I decided I had to have them. I got them to use them as an accessory, but searching for and collecting them became more engaging than dressing up ever was.

Books, Manga and DVDs but that's less of a collection and more just the fact I have a lot of them.
My real collection is props and replicas mostly from manga and anime. what got me started was I bought a forehead protector for a Shikamaru cosplay and it just went from there. One Piece DVD sets

Stuff I collect at EVERY convention or whenever available

Manga (especially on going series I must own...currently Skip Beat)
Mugs/teacups and Magnets of fav shows, characters, or just cool graphic design.

Mugs are my favorite of favorites since they are practical things that guests can enjoy and there is something so cosy and happy about drinking out of one of my One Piece mugs. YAY! Or my XXholic mug! OR my Naruto or Hitsuguya tea cups! HEEEE!!

Why do I collect these things, because most of them are useless things that no one will ever find a real purpose in keeping, and so they're more than willing to give it away. As such, I'm more than willing to take it and be able to say... "TAH-DAH! I have 800+ of something useless..."

Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?

This is weird in my friends' opinion, pretty much all of them think it's silly, but I really don't care :) Although I have bought all of these, they are just as much my son's.

We have all but one Pokémon game. The basic ones. We have a couple of the side games, but I don't really care for those; I only buy them if I can get them really cheap.

Anyway... these aren't easy to find when you live in Finland, except if you want to pay a lot of money. I got most of them from ebay, but even then not everyone ships to Finland, so it has been a process...

Here are the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance ones:

Red, Blue, Yellow
Silver, Gold, Crystal
Ruby, Saphire, Emerald
Leaf Green, Fire Red

And here are the DS ones:

Diamond, Pearl, Platinum
Soul Silver, Heart Gold
Black (the only one missing is White)

Playing Pokémon is probably incredibly geeky for a woman of my age, but that isn't so bad. It's relaxing and gives me this tiny thrill, when I plan how I'm going to play the game. I've played most of these games through, and currently I have Soul Silver in my DS.

I wanted to get all of them partly because it's simply nice to have them all, but mainly because I wanted to play them. You can play Pokémon on your computer with an emulator, but that's actually illegal, and it's very easy to cheat with that. I wanted to own the games.

That's it, my geeky Collect 'em All post :)

I collect little cafezinho cups; they're like espresso cups, but they're used for just coffee (strong, with lots of sugar - Brazilian style!).  I just thought they were the most adorable things, and had to take home a few for myself.  And actually, they work really well for shot glasses.  Go figure.

I also seem to collect Star Trek XI posters.  I have three.  Uh?

I used to collect Coca-Cola paraphernalia.  I have a blanket (the one that Matt uses when he sleeps over, and he makes it smell oh so good), a lamp, a couple of bottles, a Christmas coffee mug, a puzzle somewhere, a little toy VW beetle, a keychain, a magnet, and a tin.  All Coca-Cola.

Oh, and I've started saving the first bottle from every six pack of beer I buy.

None of my collections are very impressive or specialized; they're just an "oh, this is cool!  and here's another one kind of like it!" sort of thing.

I need to try to sleep at a normal time.  This is ridiculous.
Ooh, but this is my first night sleeping in my old roommate's room!  Which is now my room!  I "moved in" on Monday, with the help of my friend Steven.

From the Moody Blues classic 'Nights in White Satin', which I am not listening to at the present time.

I am now in something of the same position as Katherine Heigl's character in 27 Dresses, when she says she feels as if she's just found out her favorite song is about a sandwich.  I've loved this song for years and just found out Justin Heyward wrote it after getting a set of satin bedsheets as a gift.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

Mine is from "Dawn of the Dead" by Does It Offend You, Yeah? and it's really more the chorus and a few lines after it.

Today I stood and walked away
I'm never coming back this way
I've got my things, I'm here to stay
I'll try to walk another way

(Ooh, ah! Ooh!)
If you say so
I'll leave home, I'll leave home
If you say so
I'll leave home, I'll leave home

An analysis of the song by a bomb_atomically
"This song is about a relationship where the two people went their separate ways, perhaps reluctantly or due to some abnormal circumstance. It's over and was painful, but the girl most likely still wants the guy to sacrifice for love, to be by her side and leave his same life and set ways. Or at at least accept her into his life. He is scared of the commitment or rejection, and does not want to settle or chase her. But ultimately he realizes that if she wants him, he will do it to take a chance on love ("If you say so, I'll leave home", "I'll try to walk another way"). It could be the most amazing thing they ever have if he goes to her.

I could be totally over-analyzing it though, in any case the track is hot."

"If I touched you as you were falling from the sky
It was an accident
I only wanted a front row seat as you hit the Earth" Snark snark snark

"I've shed my sorrow at least for today" It speaks for itself

Writer's Block: Collect 'em all

Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?

Paperweights! Preferably but not necessarily dichroic, and with spillovers into marbles and other pretty glass/acrylic items.

I started after seeing a gorgeous paperweight (later, much later, identified as Robert Eickholt's Blue Veil). I couldn't resist the paperweights I found during the search for Blue Veil, nor have I stopped collecting since I found it. Specifically, I'm still looking for a late 1990s version of the ever-hanging Glass Eye Studio Uranus paperweight.

Sci-fi books by Robert Adams. I have multiple copies of everything he wrote.
Other than that, it'd be guns/ammo, fishing/trapping item's, and homesteading/survival stuff.
And axes! Lovely axes, the original multi-tool.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

Wow, of all the songs I know...it would be hard to pick one line as my favorite.

But I DID keep my "Moet & Chandon in a pretty cabinet"...Queen (Killer Queen)

Maybe its  "I saw a werewolf drinkin a pina colada at Trader Vic's ... his hair was perfect. "  Warren Zevon. (Werewolves of London)

or "Don't wanna die for some old man's crusade "  Roger Meddows Taylor (My Country)

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

Oh wow, my favorite one? Hmmm, there are so many I think the best I can do is to narrow it down to a few options:
1. In Nazareth's Song "Hair of the Dog" the chorus says:

"Now you're messin' with a son of a bitch" (x4)

When I played football a million years ago they would always play that part whenever I got a sack at a home game which was pretty cool.

2. Poison's "Something to Believe In" is one of my favorite songs of all and I love all the lyrics to it but if I have to choose part then I guess this bit:

"I tried all night not
to break down and cry
as the tears rolled down my face
I felt so cold and empty
like a lost soul out of place"

3. Lastly, just for a giggle, I think a bit from Deep Purple's "Knocking at Your Back Door" is in order:

"So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues"

4. Ok, couldn't help it...one last one... The song "Banditos" by the Refreshments always made me laugh:

"Well give your ID card to the border guard
Your alias says you're Captain Jean Luc Picard
Of the United Federation of Planets
'Cause he won't speak English anyway"
"Everybody knows
That the world is full of stupid people
Well I got the pistol so I'll keep the pesos
Ya that seems fair"

Do you collect anything? If so, what do you collect, and what made you start your collection?

I know I don't share much of my collections, but I do collect stuff...and I'd like to collect more stuff. Right now, I collect dolls and books. I have three American Girl dolls: Addy Walker (1860's), Sonali Matthews (modern), and Cassie Logan (1930s); one Tonner Antoinette (waiting for clothes and a faceup); and two Bratz dolls waiting to be customized (new faceups, clothes, and hair).

I collect books. I love books. I like lots of different genres of reading material...and I really like my books with pages.

If I could, I'd collect video game consoles and the games I liked as a child, like NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, PSOne, most Nintendo handhelds (Game Boy FTW!)...maybe even an Atari 2600 (which was before my time, but still looked like fun) as well as movie posters.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

"And you come away with a great little story of a mess of a dreamer with nerve to adore you." - Taylor Swift, Cold As You

I have loved that line since the first time I ever heard the song and I love it just as much today. It such a powerful sentiment. I think I would describe myself as a mess of a dreamer so maybe that it why is resonates to much with me.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

"Don't rake up my mistakes; I know exactly what they are"

From Morrissey's "Why don't you find out for yourself?"

Because I've done things in my life that I'm not proud of, but I am aware of what I've done and don't need anyone reminding me.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

My favorite line from the song "Go, Cubs, Go" is "Go, Cubs, Go" because it is a lot  like cheering on the Cubbies to victory.  That is a wonderful song because it's most always played at the end of the Cubs game after they Cubbies have already beaten the opposing team.  It doesn't matter if the victory is at home or on the road because that song can be sung just about anywhere.  Each year new updated versions of that song come out for that year's baeball season.

"all i ask is that i live just one day longer than you, so that i can have the chance to spit on your fucking grave"

 I mean come on.

I can't think of a better declaration of hatred for someone in a song than that.

There are some that come close, but for me that's the one.

It comes from a band called Backstabbers Incorporated

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best there's ever been."

For quite a few reasons.

* The speaker is a boy. A child. And he's saying this to the Devil himself. That takes balls of adamantium.
* This is the only song I know of that doesn't curse liberally - it just drops one big B-bomb right at the end. And it is awesome.
* Irony. It's a display of pride, which is (supposedly) the worst of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Devil might be thinking "ah whatever, I'll have his soul in 80 years or so anyway".
* At the same time, the pride is completely justified, because he just out-fiddled Satan.
* Did I mention that it's awesome?

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

Although there's a lot of songs that I love, there's one in particular by The Bringers, "Celtic Circle Dance", with a line that cracks me up every time I hear it:

"Norsemen came, looking for a fight;
Just another Irish Saturday night."

I think why I love it so is that it's a combination of a reminder to keep things in perspective, as well as being just plain funny as hell.

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

Not my favorite favorite, as I would have to listen to every single song I knew over again, but the first one that popped to mind is from Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons:

But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I mind it?

What's your favorite line from a song, and why?

It's been mentioned a few times, but anyway, my favourite is:

Whenever it is barren, a dream is being born (Meat Loaf - "Home by Now/No Matter What")

It actually sends shivers up my spine, and it reminds me however bad things may be, there is still hope and things will get better.
