with cards and eating popcorn
3.5hrs from Chico to Oakland: singing selena songs - - amigos
7.5hrs from San Francisco to East Los Angeles: passed time listening to corridos, eating, drinking Monster
to remain awake. breathing fresh air and stuck on the SB 5 frwy. it was long. fun only to cool CalPoly friends
I still love long beach!!
I've taken 3 very long road trips. The longest was from Colorado Springs to Ft. Benning Ga. i was very young then. I think I may have slept most of the time. 2nd longest was from San Antonio to Savannah. I mostly slept then too. And I also had to help drive since I was of age. I just liked looking at the changing terrain and new scenery so I was entertained. Along with my Nintendo DS, books, music and puzzles.
most people would find this boring, but it was pretty special for me. driving from Brisbane, QLD back home to Sydney, NSW, with family, i
spent the half the time driving, and the other half either reading up on work for uni, playing chopsticks with some family members or trying to perfect Peter Piper's Pickled Peppers, along with some other russian tongue twisters.
they was back in school days london and other places but when your young you find things to do shame there was no woman teachers or girls in our school i would of passed my time playing with them grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hmm, not counting the ones in my childhood at my homeland, the one that I can remember is either going to Chicago or New Jersey. Not sure which one, but they were long.
As to how I passed the time, I either read or slept. A long road trip requires some sleep, ne?
God, think it was driving out to Jericho in 1988 with mum, Han and Aunty Erin. We passed the time by singing the following song:
"We're driving along on the Lansborough Highway when we see a squashed kangeroo.
We take a deep breath but forget our poor noses and think that he's in the car too!!!"
It was a long drive for poor old mum and Erin!
(NB Making the same trip in 2001 with mum, Han and the ex-ex, we passed the time in a similar way by singing karaoke - Like a Rhinestone Cowboy... - and taking pics of the ex-ex stripping naked and standing in the bush. So to speak!!! Also a long drive for poor mum!)
Saying that, I've only just been able to start listening to Rasputina again, and Complex by Gary Numan as they always seemed to be playing when I stayed over at my ex's.
I once dated a punk and after that went totally tits up, I couldn't stand the mere mention of the Clash, Sex Pistols etc or look at bondage jeans lol, but thankfully I soon got over my punk-phobia...
Just recently though, I suggested my boyfriend get Four Lions on dvd, but as I went to see that with my ex (the Rasputina fan) I didn't really want to watch it again myself...
Hmm... so maybe I'm getting over the song thing, but not films... but hey, time is a great healer as they say so I'm sure I will soon be able to enjoy satirical films about terrorists again - yay!

The longest road trip that I can actually remember was the trip to Carolina Beach, NC. We passed the time by listening to music, singing, and talking about the most random of things. It was fun. :-)
Spring because I love the smell of freshly blooming flowers, cut grass and that spring rain spell that just sticks in your memory...Not only that, but if it stayed that season forever it would mean I was always a safe distance away from snow! ;-)
I've had two stage names: in the very beginning when I first started dancing, it's Leilani, which is Hawaiian for my real name, Michelle. Then I changed it when I was 30 and it became Ava,( Ava Lee) which I named myself for Ava Gardner, the brunette buxom screen bombshell of the 1950's. Lee was just a generic Asian last name :P
SoFlo to DC, Virginia. One Day. With nothing more than a child's whimsical fancies and pieces of cardboard. With which I did math, spelling, and matching games. Those were the days before video games. More specifically, the days before my brother learned to share his video games.
I would be a rapper named MC Squared.
Edit: Damn. One Google search later and I see that someone has already beat me to this magnificent pun.
Definitely something different than my real name. I hate my last name. I want something Japanese, but maybe not FULL Japanese. Lots know me by Pixyteri, but I think if I had a stage name I'd want it to be something else. ^^; And I'm still iffy on Sarah Misao too, but something. SOMETHING.
The song is entitled Makita Kang Muli (To see you again) by Sugarfree this really reminds me of my ex because this is our theme song, I really hate to hear this song because it's like i'm getting flashbacks of everything that happened during our 5 year relationship that didn't ended well... maybe i just want to keep all the good memories and i don't wanna remember every bad thing that happened just for the good vibes...........
Err. Well I once did a "Teens Westward Bound" Program where I spent 23 days driving across the States, from NC to Cali via southern states and then from Cali to NC back through more northern/central ones. I passed the time by meeting wonderful new people (big deal for socially awkward Suzanne at 14), taking copious amounts of pictures, powering through about 7 books that I stole off of Lisa (3 Dan Brown books and a couple 'trashy romance' novels like Grecian Holiday) and just generally sleeping. We would usually wake up at around 6am to start traveling and when you're camping with dreamy boys you tend to stay up too late for that early of a wake-up call.
This is my latest roadtrip... it's a 3 hr. road trip to batangas while on the van we sang song baught food from the stores we pass by and ate it while we i in particular started teasing one of my friends we never finished teasing each other until we're on the place that we have to go the trip was fun everything wen't good despite the sudden changes of weather ..............
I took the train from Portland, ME, to Portland OR. I've also done it by bus. I watched the scenery, which is better by train because it gets closer to the mountians, especially in the Rockies, read six books, and took lots of notes for my writing. I usually go to New England for writers' workshops and other writely things, so I'm brimming with ideas on the way back.
I would choose something discreetly nerdy...like my cat's name, and then the last name of some character or other. Fluffy LeStrange...yeeeeeah. >8) It would amuse me to hear fans screaming that.
Well we nicknamed my brother nockers coz of his man boobs. Funny thing is one day we were angre at him. He heard use talk an comes out to where we were an was like thats mean. Who's nockers? It was so funny. :)
I've always wondered why I like the sound of this name, but... Cecil Rackham. It's a name I've toyed with in various creative projects that never really went anywhere.
(I pronounce it "cee-cil" or "sess-cil" as the mood strikes me.)
Other names I've considered using include Martin Ragman (a name I attribute to scientists throughout my works), David Reman, Salvadore, and my own first and middle names without my surname.
I would probably keep my first name, but I'd have to come up with a last name people can say in one shot... although I would then feel guilty for throwing away my heritage. Maybe I could do the alliterative name thing and change my first name instead. Or I could just pull some pretentious foreign word out of my ass and call it a day, which is what most of the internet does. But I'm so indecisive I can't imagine I'd ever pick anything.
If I were an entertainer, I would want to be known by my real name. I think that in Hollywood stage names were part of creating a new "personality" for the entertainer, which was to be maintained for publicity, and that often contributed to and caused many personal problems in their lives.
Senoigh obviously. But my drag queen name would be Nikki Sandgate (the name of your first pet and the first street you lived on....thanx to Will And Grace lol).
I always hated my name, Alison... When and where I grew up in Central NJ, no one had really ever hard of my name & to this day, constantly mis-spell it! In the begininng of each school year, & the Teacher called out everyone's name, they would have trouble pronouncing it! Hello!!! It is AL-I-SON, how hard is that? Hooked on Phonics works for me! With the far out names that people are coming up with, I feel really bad for Teachers doing roll-call these days! I was adopted when I was an infant & at first my Mom wanted Meredith. OMFG, I would have totally changed that name by now! My name is taken from Mia Farrow's character on "Peyton Place". Now there are Alisons galore & I personally have 5 children named after me... Back in the day, when I was in a band and also wanted to be an actress, for some reason, the name Krista Vaughn has always popped into my head....
I'm going to try to do each one of the writers block prompts throughout June to get myself writing again. Maybe I'll try to make some of them into poems, rather than journal entries.
The longest road I've ever known was the one that brought me home no longer whole, and the one that put me together again, at the same time. The one that stretched from the West Coast all the way to the East- farther and farther away from my youth- and from the man who got the last of the best of me.
From San Francisco, to Ohio, I said goodbye to him at 8 o'clock in the morning, a time when no one should ever have to say a final goodbye. I drove for hours as I watched California dream greens turn to Texas stars and Oklahoma matchstick tumbleweeds. I slept in dive motels and ate with truckers who made me feel like I belonged to some secret club of the weary road wanderers. I asked questions and told secrets. I ate mostly Grilled cheese and mashed potatoes. I stopped in Missouri to look up an old friend, and his family welcomed me in. It was January. I was too tired to cry for my broken heart. I was too amazed at my independence and courage to feel sorry for myself. I lost my first love, but I was in love with life itself- with everything from the sacred to the absurd- from the voiceless crows in the desert, to the highway rest stop purple tongue slushies. Everything tasted better. Every song on the radio was one to sing along with. Every sunset was prettier.
I got two traffic tickets. One in New Mexico and one in Ohio. I saw Las Vegas, where I met a friend. I ate in Alberquerque, where a coyote ran alongside of me. I fell in love with the silence of Death Valley, The Painted Desert. I slept in Amarillo, Texas, and took my time in Oklahoma. Springfield Mo, and then one last night before pushing for home, in Terre Haute, Indiana- where I remember nothing other than the square blueberry cake donut, and the midnight desk clerk who had me play a song on my guitar for him. The next morning (6 days) I crossed the border back into Ohio- home. I felt like I'd grown ten years, and had so many secrets and memories that I couldn't share with anyone. I never did write it down exactly how it went. I couldn't if I tried. It's like trying to piece together a photograph that someone tore up, and you just can't get it exactly right. But, it's all there in the back of my mind, as clear as a movie I could rewind. That's the longest road trip I've ever been on.
I would go with "Melissa Lourds". Well, Melissa is my favorite character from Home Movies and Lourds has nothing to do with anything...
I can't say I've ever given it much thought... I like my name. It's different. "Rue." My maiden name was more unique than my married name, but that's okay.
NONE. What's the point of being famous if no one knows your name? Never understood that. Then again I'm inordinately proud of my family name.
If I were an entertainer, the screen name I'd want would be Wrigley Fields. The reason I'd want a name like that is because I'd be an entainer who is also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. That name would show people that I am an actress who is also a beloved baseball fan.
the longest was when we had a company outing going to Laoag Ilocos Norte (2005) it took us 7hrs to reach laoag from our point in paniqui. coz we need to stopover when we see a great view on the road to take a picture, nyahahah!
another 7hrs on the road when we travel from singapore to kuala lumpur by bus (2006)
When I travelled in a caravan with my then-bf's large family and their friends all the way down to Panuco Vera Cruz, in southern Mexico. It was HOT. There were lots of people, including many small, active children. We had two vans. It was an experience. Kids were throwing a baseball back and forth in one of the vans. In the other, the air conditioning broke, so we had to ride with the windows down, which was especially nice, because the sewage line on the van in front broke and sprayed sewage on the second van, which had the windows down. I happened to switch from the front van to the back just before this happened, so I was a recipient of the sewage spray. After that, no one wanted to switch anymore. Go figure.
How did I pass the time? Actually wishing I was back at work. : /
if i was an entertainer my stage name would be abbracadabra. cus that is the name of the song me and my dad would sing when i was growing up :)
Left on Wednesday drove from Halifax to Montreal 1200KM.
The next morning we drove to Ottawa and back for a job interview and a quick museum tour. 600Km
Friday we drove from Montreal to Niagara Fall for a wedding about 900Km.
Sunday we drove back to Montreal 900Km.
Monday we took the day to do a bit of shopping.
Tuesday we drove back to Halifax 1200Km
total for this trip just under 5000km
Serious case of Road Ass.
I don't plan on needing a stage name, but I do think about what I'd use as a pen name. I've been thinking lately that if I ever do get published, I'd probably need (or at least want) one. At the risk of sounding super tacky, I feel like my name is too ethnic, especially my last name. And I'd probably also go for a first name that's not gender specific -- or stick with just initials and a last name.
Driving to Morphicon a couple years back in my Jetta TDI wagon. That was a fun trip - though a bit lonely at times as I was solo for the entire trip. It was nice to stop where I wanted, eat where I wanted, even sleep when I wanted where I wanted to stop. I have to repeat that trip with my Prius. Probably not quite as fun as with a manual transmission diesel... but probably just as economical.
The longest road trip I've taken was from Florida to Washington State. I had been keeping my LJ at that time, so I do have a record of the trip. I always look forward to road trips, but the reality of them is much more than I expect. Usually Chris and I are in two different vehicles, which makes the trip more challenging.
Other long road trips we've taken:
Florida to St. Louis--we took this trip shortly after we got married. We were so broke, but I really felt the need to go because my dear friend Melissa was getting married in the temple and, being the only Mormon in her family, she had no other guests from her side in attendance. We drove straight through, napping at a rest area for a bit. Once we arrived, her in-laws paid for us to stay in a hotel. We'd planned on driving straight back after the wedding. We fell asleep the moment our heads hit the pillow, even with John and Melissa still in the room visiting with us.
Florida to Arizona/vice-versa--We've made this trip four times. I-10 is not a very exciting road to travel.
Florida to Virginia--not a bad trip at all. Definitely can be done in one day, if there are two drivers to share the burden.
My longest Epic Road Trip is from eastern Ontario to Idaho Falls, ID. The trip is about 3,600 Km each way, and takes about 36 hours of driving time. In a herculean feat of driving, my wife and I did ~6 hour shifts all the way across, taking turns sleeping, listening to stand-up comedy (Mitch Hedberg, Blue Collar Comedy (plus solo albums from Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy), Eddie Izzard, and Dane Cook), as well as lots of MP3s from our iPods. In addition, I tweeted my GPS coordinates from our Garmin 255w every few hours so our families could track our progress as we trekked across the country. Plus, we had cellular contact through much of the trip, so texting family and friends was another pass-time.
Our route was route 401 and 402 through Ontario, then picked up I-69, then I-94, then I-80. We then followed I-80 until the junction with I-84 in eastern Utah, then turned north to I-15 as the final leg to Idaho Falls.
We departed at noon on Friday, and arrived at 3 AM local time Sunday. We took a detour to Ft. Collins, CO, which took about 4 hours. The total trip time was 40 hours, 15 minutes.
About 10 days later we reversed the trip, but took US-191 through central Wyoming (AMAZING scenery here, same with parts of I-80 in south-central WY near Rock Springs and Laramie) before rejoining I-80. We left around 6 AM and arrived at home around 8:30 PM the next day (36.5 hours).
It was a lot of driving, but seeing the sunrise in Iowa over the corn fields and windmills was just so neat...it was easy to spend hours just staring out the window and observing everything. I almost didn't want to sleep so I didn't miss anything as I'd never been to most of the states along the route.
Now, we're expecting our first child in 3 weeks, and planning to repeat the drive 10 weeks after he's born. I think we're nuts...but it'll be an adventure of a different kind, this time...and that is what life's about!
Wth I didn't know Marilyn Monroe's name was Norma Jeane. I...thought it was Marilyn Monroe! D: MY WORLD. IT CRASHES.
But anyway, I think I'd want to be 'Sarah Cross'.
Russia's Greatest Love Machine
My mum's back. She's still intolerable, but that's alright, she's going to make me dinner.
I would choose to be Talia Smalls. I would keep my first name, because let's face it, it's awesome. But smalls is an acquired nickname that I rock due to my small stature and the fact that I have the energy of 12 7 year olds that just ran a train on a cupcake warehouse.
Well, for a stage name, I'd have to pick, um, Voni. Short and sassy. LIke me. Straightforward and upfront. Like me.
Vonilda, like my blog title, comes from my Spanish class when we had to pick Spanish names by which to be called. Voni wasn't in the Spanish name list, but Vonilda was close. I guess it has more of a stage sound to it, but it reminds me of my pre-adolescence, so I'll stick with Voni.
I don't care for my last name
Or I could go by the pen name Rogue Hanson again hahahaha
When I was in HS I had an X-Men/Hanson obsession...yep
Texas to Washiington DC, god that was the longest trip I've have never taken. Also the very first time I left out of the state. We were in a charter bus so there wasn't much to do to pass the time but to watch movies. I recommend flying though, even though I've never flow
I will be publishing under a pseudonym.
Because I'm pretty sure a lot of the crap I write would embarrass the hell out of people I know. And because I don't want to have to answer a million questions about stuff like, "OMG, why is XYZ character so (gay)(racist)(dumb)(malicious)(spineless)
Anyway, yeah. I'd rather focus on improving my writing than on having to explain it.
Um, I think I would choose Doctor Jack, simply because I've always inspired to become a doctor but I can't stand blood or open wounds or anything like that, so I will only become a doctor once I get my doctorate in my English degree, um and Jack because that will be my legal name one day. I am weird, I guess?
It'd have to be either Amaya, Maria, or Tsuki. ^^
Amaya means 'night rain' in Japanese, which I think is pretty cool.
Maria reminds me of all things spiritual (not just Christian - anything)
Tsuki means 'moon' in Japanese, which would be fitting if I was in a rock band lol
Also, I just think all of these names are so pretty.
I would only use Tari if I became a fashion designer, or when writing books, or if I was in a rock band which I could really see becoming world famous, as it is a really special name to me.
There's only one thing I'd need to do. Make several million dollars materialize out of thin air! I could use the money to take care of all the other things I'd like to do. :)
Oh, and I suppose it would be good to rid the world of evil while I was at it! And politicians. Or would ridding the world of evil take care of the latter? Hmm...

( Collapse )
when i was about 14 i dreamt about becoming a movie star and once while looking through a book about Marilyn - there were listed her films with data out - i chose two names Nancy Case and Amanda Kertis/ i just liked they sounded.
Live it up with my friends and family. lol. There isn't very much that you can do if it's your last day on earth because nothing will last or even matter after that day..
I never ever do these but this one was calling my name. My stage name would be Tessa LaRue. Why? Well because I think it goes well together. Tessa is sort of a simple name by itself but when you add LaRue, it sounds exotic. ♥
We just talked about this last night with some friends, and came to conclusion that the names of those villains from Turtles are total badass: Bebop & Rocksteady. I'd go with either one. Nana Bebop, in your service :)
