Writer's Block: Back in the day

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

Oh this would have to be my firm belief in The Leroys. The Leroys were a family of mice who live in my stomach and organized the food I ate onto shelves for their use. Ahh, how wee people rationalize things they don't yet fully understand. The Leroys were named by my father accidentally, when he was laughing at my initial description of the mice. When I didn't readily have names for my "tummy mice," he asked if any were named Leroy. I said yes, they were all Leroy. I used them to try to scam dessert without finishing dinner by saying that the food shelves were full, but I still had room on the dessert shelf.

Eventually the Leroys became external imaginary friends. I made my parents wait while we were getting into the car until I was sure they were all in and safe. Once, after we'd been swimming at the Y, my dad picked my mother, brother, and I up at the curb. Lil Bro was upset. He didn't care much for swimming and was cranky (and less than a year old) and the grown-ups were impatient to get everyone loaded and stop blocking traffic. When dad pulled into traffic I burst into screams. We'd left a Leroy on the curb. I would now buy that he'd been sitting on mom's lap where I couldn't see him. We had to circle the block, stop the car, and open the door for Leroy to hop in. I out grew them eventually, mostly without noticing, but it is still my folks favorite story about their amazingly creative, bizarre little girl.

This must sound really stupid but I remember when the town I lived in as a kid (I still there) got its first set of trafic lights in the late 1970s/early 1980s.I used to go and watch them and I did that for years. The only thing I can say in my defence is that I wasn't the only kid who did that.

I had quite the crush on Jeff Manookian, a child prodigy  in middle school.  He turned out to be quite the accomplished pianist, even famous...more than locally.   By high school he was professional. We were in a science class together and I remember being so intriqued by his intelligence and his abilities. It was our discussion of the amoeba that began our friendship.  I never actively flirted with him because I simply thought he was too good for me.  True to my instincts I am leading an average life.  He, on the other hand is astounding and remains quite handsome to this day.

We became good friends, nothing more.  But I had it in "bad" for him.

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

So all in all it was a pretty perfect day. Freddy picked me up around 6:45 and now it is 12:06 and I am fucking beat.

Tomorrow I will be waking up hopefully not at 5:30, but more like 8:30 or 9:30 because I really need rest. Then hitting the gym with Sam and probably laying around for the rest of the day after that, because honestly after today's festivities/excitement, I kind of just need a day to lounge and possibly watch some more Supernatural.

Oh, I scheduled my interview for Saturday at 3! Fingers crossed I get it :D I need to go shopping for an appropriate blouse to wear before then, though. I mean, I've got a few, but they all have cropped sleeves and I don't want my tattoos showing. Sam said that they have a pretty lenient policy towards tattoos, but I still don't want to make that assumption. I don't want anything screwing this up at all.

ETA: Hipster Toddler complete with Hipster Writing can be found here and here (different writing at each link). The model used was Izzy, of course (she saw me and Sam taking pictures and told me she wanted to be in one. When I asked if she wanted to be in the picture with us she simply stated, "no. Just me." Then when I told her to look at the camera she started looking around and playing with the towel and posing...it was basically the funniest thing ever.)

Also I need to say that those two pictures make me cry with laughter. Favorite edits of all time.

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

um no I was the coolest motherfucker ever.
  • I played Pokemon in the pool with my friends (we pretended we were Pokemon, it was great)
  • pretended my bike was a horse/unicorn/pegasus
  • played with my step-brother's Star Wars action figures while completely discarding any Barbie dolls in the house
  • fucked up my Furbies (yeah even the fucking special edition Easter one -  I don't fuck around)
  • recorded my own radio shows with my cousin
  • played video games like a fucking boss so all the boys in the neighborhood wanted to hang out with me more than my step-brother
  • manipulated kids into a bad Pokemon trade (my best one was when I got some girl to give me her first edition Machamp for my fucking Haunter. lol dumb bitch)
  • and just generally fucking up everyone's shit
Honestly I was the most badass kid in my neighborhood.

ANYWAY TODAY WAS WONDERFUL.

And that wasn't even a sarcastic comment!

I went to bed super early last night (11:30, really) and woke up with Freddy at 5:30 in the morning. I like to watch Arthur (you know, the show with the aardvark? yeah) and Martha Speaks with breakfast, so that happened. On Arthur the lunch lady had cancer so that was a littleSUPER fucking depressing. Anyway, after that I decided to look for more jobs to apply for online. I had plans with Sam to go swimming, but that wouldn't be until later, so I had a lot of time to kill. I ended up applying at Toys'R'Us (a long shot, but you never know), Toy Land (an independently owned toy store in the mall), and Macy's at Great Northern. I wasn't expecting much from any of them, but around 10:30 (not even 2 hours after I applied), Macy's e-mailed me letting me know they wanted to schedule an interview! :D Being that I was in the middle of getting ready, and you need to schedule it online, I decided to wait until I got home from Sam's but oh my god guys I MIGHT HAVE A JOB SOON. Granted, I'll probably hate it within like 5 months BUT I'LL HAVE A JOB SOON MAYBE.

Before Sam's, mom and I went to Target because ugh I needed a new bathing suit. Unfortunately, 99% of everything is bikinis, and the other 1% is tankinis and they all cost $23597325092, so I was pissed. Then we went over to Wal-Mart (after buying my white collar dress shirt my Slytherin uniform is almost complete) to see if they had anything, which they did not, and I came to the realization that nothing really sends me into a great depression like trying on bathing suits. However, I finally found something suitable and got to Sam's moderately early.

Let me just say, that my time over there was pretty much exactly what I needed. I love laying out in the sun, swimming all day, eating hot dogs and apples (a fabulous lunch, btw, that's not even a joke), and swimming some more. There's nothing quite like that slight burning sensation you get on your skin after an exhausting, yet fun, day in the water. And I don't mean burn like "oh my god my skin is on fire what is happening why is Satan touching me?!" but like how your cheeks get inevitably red, and they hurt a little, but the redness is kind of adorable and hey now you don't need blush for a while, right?

I also met Sam's niece, Izzy, and oh my god she's so precious! We played tag with her in the pool and apparently I was supposed to be dead after she tagged me. Then Izzy was the mommy and Sam was the "honey" (apparently this means Sam was the daughter) and I was the husband and I had to bring home the bacon, so to speak, except the bacon was really an inflatable female shark named Sharkey. Also I was not allowed any pink diving sticks, only green, and they were not, under any circumstances, allowed to be pretend wands. Izzy made this perfectly clear to me.

So all in all it was a pretty perfect day. Freddy picked me up around 6:45 and now it is 12:06 and I am fucking beat.

Tomorrow I will be waking up hopefully not at 5:30, but more like 8:30 or 9:30 because I really need rest. ETA: I had pictures I was going to add but Livejournal fucked my shit up soo I'll just add them tomorrow when my eyes aren't burning out of my skull from exhaustion :D

When I was little I used to try to embarrass my older sister in front of her friends by jumping in front of the tv, pulling up my dress over my head to reveal my Lambchop underpants and sing the song from the commercial "hey! it's lambchop's underwear, a special pair that you can wear without a care..."
to the tune of the theme song from the show...
Now I am somewhat embarrassed when I realize that I later dated one of those friends who I used to do that to... haha

What's the longest book you've ever read? What's the shortest?

The longest book I've ever read would probably be the complete Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy collection. Yknow, the one from Barnes & Noble that's all leather bound and nice. Really a great read.

As for the shortest... I honestly don't remember. Basically anything as a child, duh, but as an adult... probably manga or another graphic novel. Perhaps the Farside collections if they count. Otherwise "Snow Crash" by Neil Stephenson - my favorite book of all time.

Everything. Everything about my past--most of it from home--make me laugh whenever i remember them. Then eventually but gradually, i become sad that all's in the past. Wish i could turn back time or the least have the ability to visit memories.

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

There are so many things that I used to do when I was younger back in the day.

From sitting up real close to the television while playing Nintendo or while watching Thundercats, He-Man, Transformers, She-Ra, G.I.Joe, Silverhawks, etc. Dancing with my aunt to the sounds of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, SaltNPepa, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, etc. All the block parties were on my block in Brooklyn (cause that's where I'm from - born and raised).

Oh I can't forget about running around with a towel tied around my my neck acting like I was Superman. Eating salad like it was going to disappear. I used to eat mainly just the lettuce and cucumber & drown it in french dressing. Eating avocado with vinegar, pickled pickles in the bag, deviled eggs, pig feet (from in that clear jar that they used to and might still have at bodegas), not to mention always in the kitchen with my grandma. Whenever she was making a cake, I'd be right there next to her, just waiting for her to ask me if i wanted to lick the rest of the cake batter out of the mixing bowl that didn't drop into the baking pan. Mmmm, mm those were some fun, hilarious days.

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to acting, which of his film characters would you like to see him play first?

I'm actually impartial to Schwarzenegger returning to acting.
The only thing I felt he was the absolute perfect cast in (that I've seen at least) was the Terminator franchise and that's doing quite well/well-enough without him.
However, in all truthfulness I would not mind seeing him return to Terminator for one more film only instead of a T-1000 (or whatever his model number was) the actual human his model was based upon. Kinda like how Cameron was based on a real girl/member of the resistance before John Connor reprogrammed her in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

That is an extremely difficult question. After much contemplation, I would say that it's a tie between Benny and Joon and Chocolat. In Benny and Joon you get his stereotypical wackiness, but it has a certain sweetness to it that his other wacky roles lack. And Chocolat? Just... oh. Be still my heart. I could use more smoldering gypsy men in my life. We'll leave it at that.

Oh yeah - I was sort of a quirky kid. When I was little and got sent to bed but couldn't fall asleep, I would often quickly rock my head back and forth from side-to-side on the pillow. I figured that would make my brain tired and would help me fall asleep. Kid logic, FTW.

Writer's Block: Your own toy story

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal, action figure, or doll growing up? If so, what was it and what happened to it?

My grandma made me a stuffed teddy bear for me before I was born that I kept with me for god only knows how much of my youth. Maybe 5 at the latest? I can still see it clearly in my head and it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Unfortunately it's still at my parent's house these days collecting dust.
I think next time I'm visiting from college I may have to bring it back with me...

Writer's Block: Fool me once...

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend or partner who asked for forgiveness? Were you able to forgive and/or forget? What was the result?

A few have betrayed me....
In such a way, such a serious way it has scarred me for several years.
I cannot forget not matter how much I may want to, and I most certainly can never forgive.
Now? It may be contributing directly to PTSD or similar experiences/feelings.
Don't think I'll ever trust to those levels again.
People suck.

I remember when I was a kid I had a really bad habit of going into grocery stores and sticking my head into that plexiglass display counter thing that you could open a little door to get various deli salads out of.  One day I got caught doing it by one of the grocery store employees and everyone was staring at me like I was some sort of gimp (I guess I actually was) but I suppose this is the moment where I discovered shame.

Haha, jk, but seriously, the shorest book I ever read had literally three pages and only a few sentences that were very simple like "tick tock goes the clock." It sold for $20 which was an absolute rip off condsidering I could have written the book myself in three seconds.

The longest book I ever read was the Bible followed by Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With the Wind.

I have to go with Edward Scissorhands (though it only *just* edges ahead of Benny and Joon and Crybaby) It touches the place in me that craves mythology. And it has Vincent Price for that extra credit...

Though, as an old Dark Shadows fan, I will be anxiously awaiting a look at his version of Barnabas Collins.

Edward Scissorhands will always been my favorite Johnny Depp movie. And, likewise, my favorite Tim Burton movie.

It's a favorite of my family but I also love it for the tragic yet innocent romance of it--for a life of normalcy that became a life of insane infamy, for a girl meets not-normal-at-all boy... a lot of reason to love this movie. But I will just always love the way Johnny Depp portrayed the befuddled and confused Edward who loved his father, his creator, who was unable to complete him and only wished to be normal in that silly silly homely neighborhood, who used the sharp, dangerous implements on his hands that people thought were only for harm for beautiful, creative art, who is said to make it snow since that time he came down from that lonesome tower.

It's very very much a romantic tell, a tragedy. But of the best sort, I think. Also with an element of Frankenstein, that I will never not love.

But Depp was just able to pull off the character so well--he really is a wonderful actor, but that role of his will always be my favorite.

And because I ALSO love the music:

I was the sort of kid that walked around in a daze, then the type of teenager that did silly things to fit in, and finally the sort of adult that has lost most shy nature; so the list is very long on this one and spans my entire life.

Specifically when I was a child? I was convinced that if anyone left the light off on the front porch my father would forget where we lived, so I carried a flashlight around with me for several months once because I was afraid it would go out.

I also took my sister's favorite doll at one point and hid it in the very back of the attic of the house we lived in then because I was afraid it was going to do something very bad when I wasn't watching it. One of those dolls that opens their eyes when you pick them up and has the bodies that can stand up on their own if you prop them up; I was terrified of that toy.
And I find that funny now, looking back, that it did freak me out so much. I was at the time ten, so well past the point of being afraid of things like that.

A lot of people will disagree with me here, but I have always loved 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Ever since it came out, I have always told people that it is my favourite movie, along with 'The Elephant Man'. As much as I liked the original version with Gene Wilder, there is something about this version that I prefer. Part of it is I guess the fact that I find it to be so funny. The first time I saw it in theatres, there were certain parts of it that I couldn't stop laughing about. I had so much fun watching it, that I went back to see it in theatres a second time. That is the only time I have ever done that for a movie. I guess I just couldn't wait for it to be released on DVD. XD

My runners up include 'Sleepy Hollow' and 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?'.

Which film starring birthday boy Johnny Depp is your favorite, and why?

Ooh, I heart Johnny, this is a hard one!  Okay, we'll, I loved him in 'Finding Neverland', Jack Sparrow is always kind of fun, though I wouldn't point those as my favorites, sexay as all hell in Don Juan, I wanted to huggle him a million times over in 'Crybaby', 'Benny and Joon' and 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' are most definitely up there, but probably my two favs 'cause I can't choose between them are 'Sleepy Hollow' (just love the humor but also awesomeness he brought to Ichabod, twas fantastic!) and, of course 'Edward Scissorhands.'  That was just such a sad, beautiful movie and Johnny's facial expressions were off the wall amazing!

But!  I first fell in love with him a bazillion years ago watching him as officer Tom Hanson on '21 Jump Street' - his one and only major TV show.  That's probably my favorite of his roles, still, just because it's where I first got to know him anf I got to see him onscreen on a totally regular basis.  AND..... they're filming a '21 Jump Street' movie!  With him in it!!!!  So, keeping that in mind, I'm assuming that will become my new favorite unless it totally just sucks so much balls that even he can't save it... Or it's possible he's just like doing a cameo in which case it wouldn't matter that much if he's in it or not....  But, Channing Tatum and Dave Franco should help, too.... ;)

The Pirates of The Carribbean, of course. On Stranger Tides. (I actually like all of the Pirate movies; just listing one I have seen recently.) I watched Alice In Wonderland, didn't really enjoy it. Same with the Willie Eonka one too. For some reason, I just enjoy watching him act as a Pirate.

I love many of his movies, but I guess 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' is still on top- an absolutely awesome movie, even more so when stoned. An odd thing to mention, but many would agree some movies are abviously more catered to the drug croud and thus you don't truely see the film until weed slows it way down for you.

Natural Born Killers, though not a Depp movie, is another classic for this- I've absolutely loved this movie since I first saw it and that was at least a decade before I drank or smoked anything. friends at a school I once attended said I was so fucked up for digging that movie so much, because they didn't even understand it really until they got stoned one night and watched it.

A truely gifted mind sees twisted images for what they are without the help of drugs.

In a final note, he was also awesome as Willy Wonka, and of course Jack Sparrow.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.. its an amazingly horrible movie, and to see him pull off Raoul Duke, a character that is just over the brink of insanity is refreshing. Generally actors go overboard with characters like that but Mr. Depp kept his work believable and interesting in a very mind boggling movie. If you haven't seen it and you can sit through a film that takes both concentration and complete inattention at the same time I highly recommend this one.

Cry Baby. It has ALWAYS been my favorite Johnny Depp movie, it's definitely the hottest he's ever been. I want to live in that movie. When I was little, I thought I would be Allison, but I dreamed of growing up to be Wanda Woodward. I wished Iggy Pop was my grandpa, and I wished we bathed in washtubs in the front yard.

I'm shocked that I haven't really seen anyone mention Don Juan DeMarco. He was so effortlessly sexy without being over the top or cheesy. Playing opposite Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway would probably leave most other actors in the shadows, but Johnny Depp plays his character brilliantly. I would have no problem falling in love with this Don Juan.

Writer's Block: Your own toy story

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal, action figure, or doll growing up? If so, what was it and what happened to it?

I actually use to cry about this.. and it would be common to cry to lose something you love.

I use to own this porcelain baby doll with porcelain face, hands and feet. Since I was little, I was a optimistic and naive girl. I still am right now, but back then I was VERY optimistic. I didn't know anything about the give and take deal kind of thing. Like, you give someone something, and you expect to get something back. I grew up not in a rich nor poor family, the middle with financial aid help or something. But things we buy cost money, and having a thrifty mother is always a good thing. She wouldn't waste money the instant she got it, she'd use it wisely. Unlike my father, but that's a different story.

So the things I would buy, I would give it away out of pure kindness(or so I'm told) or out of "I-have-a-lot-of-things-so-you-can-have-it." I even once gave away my swimming goggles to a girl in the pool (that I only played with for a few minutes) because she didn't have one. She declined taking it, but I insisted, being my optimistic and naive girl I was. (I was very young, possibly even 5-7 years old.) I was immediately scolded by my parents once she left with my goggles. Clearly, I cried, noticing my parent's anger and my stupidity... or my stubbornness that got me into more trouble.

Then this other case, which leads me back to my original topic and to the question, my doll. After watching a Chinese dubbed anime called 'Laputa; Castle in the Sky', (by Hayao Miyazaki, my most FAVORITE artist ever.) I decided to name my doll after the female character; Shiita. Days went by and I was in kindergarten. I bragged about my now ruined doll and how I love it. (I drew on it with pencil, then realizing that erasing it made it worse; as the eraser had gone red and bad.) So I let others borrow multiple things, got it back, then gone again. One day, I had gone and said this, "You can borrow this, but give it back to me! It's my favorite!". It was my friends(or now I call 'classmate'' since now we don't even talk, literally.) birthday, and I let her borrow my favorite doll; Shiita. She took it from me and never returned it back. I told my Dad, and once again, as always, scolded about how I shouldn't let others borrow my things ever again. Now, I have to even choose who to let borrow my pencil because of the daily lectures.

Then, after a while, my sorrowful days of the missing ceramic had gone. Day by day, I forgot about that now ragged up doll. I was in my last years or during my years of elementary or middle school when one day, I had gone and re-watched Hayao Miyazaki's film. That night, I silently went to bed during after dinner (which was at 8 pm) and cried, muffling my tears in the pillow in which I slept in. But seems like that just wasn't enough, my dad had heard me. He came in and demanded why I was crying. I reluctantly told him the reason, and he lectured to me that the past is the past and that I should let it go. Clearly, he hadn't felt the feeling of loving something that has been with you for a long time and immediately gone for a stupid cause. He just had too many things to buy and too many things to place in his small room of his, wasting my mom's and his hard earned money. (There I go again, talking about my dad's bad ways. I really need to stop getting into my past and about my dad. It's really hard not to get mad at him.)

That's when I finally had let it go, but of course, letting go little by little, bits by bits. Letting go about something I once loved is a hard task to do.

So I took it slowly.

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

Let's see...so many good movies. I like "The Ninth Gate" and "From Hell" but then I also like movies like "Benny and Joon", "Chocolat", and "Finding Neverland".

His portrayal of Cap't Jack Sparrow is witty and complex especially in the first Pirates movie. Very memorable and sexy.

As much as I love Captain Jack Sparrow, as much as I liked Tom Hanson of Jump Street, as much as I have loved so many of his other characters, I have to say that my favorite of all Johnny's characters was Sam in Benny and Joon.  That movie is extremely underrated and was one of Johnny's best performances, IMO.

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?

http://luka55.livejournal.com/556.html

-Hello!
-Hello, -
Simply Red.
Hello»?
