Does the United Kingdom count as one country or four countries? I want to see England, because I have family over there, but I'd also like to see Scotland at the very least, and wouldn't mind a quick jaunt to Cardiff in Wales to see where the Doctor Who and Torchwood magic happens, and while I'm at it, I imagine that Northern Ireland has some lovely scenery too. That's an awful lot to fit into two weeks, though.
But you know what? I'd love a two-week (at least;it would probably take a lot longer) all-expense-paid trip across my OWN country. Because I live in the second-largest country on Earth, and I've seen only a tiny fraction of it. I want to see the Rockies. I want to see the Northern Lights in the actual North. I want to see the Arctic Ocean. I want to see the Atlantic Ocean. I want to get screeched in, in Newfoundland and Labrador. I want to see if you can actually see icebergs float past. I want to see the land of Anne of Green Gables in PEI. I want to visit Cape Breton and hear some of the wonderful music that gets made there. I want to go to Quebec and see if I can be immersed enough in French that I re-learn how to speak it. I want to visit the Prairies where you can watch your dog run away from home for three days and get my mind blown by the flatness of it all. (I grew up around mountains. Flatness makes me nervous.) I want to go to my nation's capital and see Parliament. I want to go to Niagara Falls.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...
Japan, because it's damn expensive to visit there and (unlike some other expensive & artificial destinations, like Dubai) there are lots of things to see and do.
2384 miles, in 57 hours....Columbus, Ohio to Anaheim California...Christmas Break, 1974-75 Freshman trip to the Rose Bowl...
Hey it was the 70's....we toked and swallowed little black beauties to make the time....well not pass exactly...just speed up a little...
Damn, those were the days...
Lost the game by one point....after all that driving and partying...go figure...
I haven't seen theme all so maybe for me this an unfair question but I do remember watching Edward Scissorhands at the cinema and that has stayed with me, beautiful film. Also Ed Wood is a favourite film of mine.
I'm more a fan if the other birthday boy today, Michael J Fox, I think my favourite Fox film, besides BTTF, is 'The Frighteners' it is a film with almost everything, good central story, light moment, good, well played drama and a nice dollop of mild horror. Sadly underrated but it is getting a Blu-ray release later this year, so hopefully it will find a new audience.
CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!!!
I don't know, actually. I like how he's so mischievous yet brave at the same time and it makes him look so cute~
To sum up, he's hot and awesome in Pirates of the Caribbean ^^
Miso soup :)
rare steak and strawberry daquiris!
Banana creme pie :DDD
I fell in love with Finding Neverland (2004).
I'm a big Johnny Depp fan anf thoroughly enjoyed all his movies and the incredibly famous PoTC series but nothing really takes my breath away other than him giving a face and a facet of JM Barrie.
The chemistry between Peter and Barrie, most especially, touched me deeply.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHNNY! You transcend all age groups when it comes to your charm and appeal!
HAD to answer this one, obviously. I'm totally in love with this man. So I have two favorites: The Secret Window and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. The Secret Window is one of my favorite movies of all time and is one of the best Stephen King books-turned-movie. And What's Eating Gilbert Grape is just a wonderful film. I also really like Benny and Joon...and everything else he's ever been in. ;)
"Шоколад". Потому что в тонкую, глубокую и эстетически приятную атмосферу фильма Депп прекрасно вписывается, вернее, является составляющей частью этой атмосферы! :)
и "Сонная лощина" по новелле Ирвинга.
I dont think Ive actually seen a Johnny Depp movie from start to finish.
I know he was in Edward Scissorhands but that just seemed stupid.
And in Willie Wonka which Ive never actually watched.
Id love to sit down and watch one of the "Pirate" movies.......but they seem a bit indulgent.
I will probably get around to it some day.
The longest book I've read was Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Although I already read the 7th book, I still feels that the 5th book is longer. On the other hand, the shortest book I've read was The Pearl by John Steinbeck.
There are maybe several different things that I could write about to answer this one. I was told that when I was really, really young I used to get up and sing for people in restaurants. I find that quite funny as I now have an extraordinary amount of stage fright during even the smallest of performances. I guess one thing that really makes me laugh when I look back on it is this thing my friends and I did during lunch when we were freshman in high school...
We were so dumb and too energetic. We had this weird sense of entitlement or ownership or something like that over 'our' table at lunch, and got crazy defensive if anyone tried to impose on this. See, sometimes kids who sort of already treated us like dirt would sometimes 'steal' our seats if one of us did not get down there fast enough. They knew they were doing it, dammit. Plus, it didn't much help that our school sectioned off where each year sat. It simply made the chore of claiming the section within our section all the more excruciatingly important. I suppose one could say it was similar to choosing the gang you roll with in prison and claiming your turf. I would venture to say that our 'gang' was sort of a cross between the characters in Glee and SLC Punk! as far as being 'outcasts'. Often times, we used gross-out tactics to scare others away. And often times, it failed totally. But we had fun doing it. Well...often times.
I remember, with a bit of disgust, one incident in particular when I guess we were feeling especially rambunctious. We were in some sort of argument with the people who always stole our seats, which always got us all riled up. My friend was chewing on a piece of bread when we, for some unspeakable reason, thought the best possible action to take at that time would be for her to spit out the well-chewed, monumentally soggy chunk of dough into her hand...give it to me...and allow me to finish the job. I fearlessly (now defined, 'stupidly') pop the nasty clump of slobber bread into my mouth, but finish the job I could not. Maybe it was the way all the warm, dense fluid gushed onto my tongue from the gritty, malleable texture the moment I bit down, or maybe it was the simple and instant realization of what I had just done that sent a message to my legs find the nearest garbage can as fast as possible. Fortunately, there was one right at the end of the table where we sat. Unfortunately, everyone stopped arguing and watched me puke into it.
So, yeah. That happened.
I have to say.... Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
and thank you for the information that di Caprio and Johnny Depp move "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" because these two are my most favorite actors and I'm wishing to see them work together. :D
I'd have to say my favorite movie of Johnny's that I've recently watched has been 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?'. It's just so different from any movie I've ever seen. Leo did a fabulous job playing a mentally handicapped child. And Johnny was, as always, his amazing self.
I cannot say that if I had a special power - a gift of the gods, a mutation, an ability - what exactly it would be. There are those I desire. There are those I can see my body naturally developing, and there are those I feel best match my personality. I might never be able to settle on one power, and that is probably the beauty of it. As long as superpowers are fiction, we can dream to be anyone we want to be. And if they were something more, a god-gift, a genetic mutation - we wouldn't be able to chose anyways.
Though I cannot settle on what my power would be, I have absolutely no hesitation in my answer to this question. Would I hide my power, or share it with the world? Regardless what it was, or how its uses manifest, I would find a way to incorporate my power into nearly every aspect of my life. I would drop the life I live and base the structure of my new one entirely around my gift. I would show it to the world, and share it. If there were others, I would find them, and we would help each other accept, understand, and shape ourselves. We would rewrite ourselves, our lives, and history. We would take the world, and reshape it in its entirety.
The best part is, that anyone capable of holding us back, will have joined us from the beginning.
Oh geez. I've read SO many books in the last few years... I'd have to say Outlander by Diana Gabaldon was by far the longest. It was pushing 1,000 pages. Tiny print, too! And the shortest... oh wow. I'm not even sure. Probably one of the Vampire Kisses books by Ellen Schreiber. Good books if you have nothing else to read..
I would alter the bodies of myself and my friends to be exactly as we envision to be ideal. I would program my brain to speak every language. I would give Caleb's mind the necessary genius to complete his desired research projects (think Airships and the things Nikola Tesla failed to complete), and I would magic a billion dollars spread out in safes between myself and all those I hold dearest. Of course then I'd also ensure I had a decent job, college degree in whatever I want without going to school and essentially set myself up for success without ever having had to do any work. And if possible, arrange a place for my friend and I to live.
No, I wouldn't do anything for the world. It has to save itself one person at a time, on an individual basis. I'm rather more curious how many people want to bother putting the necessary effort into making a better world than simply giving it to everyone point-blank.
Right here, where I am. I've done the travel thing. Beyond a quick trip to Europe for the weekend, I'm not sure if there's anywhere I really want to be.
Then again, ask me this question after I've had a few, and the answer might change quite a bit.
How dare you ask such an impossible to answer question! I think, though, that my favorite would hands down be Sweeney Todd. I love his role as Captain Jack Sparrow... BUT I hate those movies. (sorry everyone! they're only tolerable because of Johnny Depp. Without him, those PoTC movies would be steaming piles of you know what. Except for the recent one. it was decent.) Sweeney Todd, though, was awesome. ^_^
England. I've always wanted to go to England. It always fascinated me for some reason, even more so after I got into Harry Potter. Especially now, it almost seems to be this magical, mystical place to me. It would have been amazing to actually go and see them filming, but even though that's over now, I'd still like to go and see some of the locations. And perhaps
of course JAPAN!
Because in my mind Japan is the wonderful country, everywhere looked beautiful. I wanna touch cherryblossoms flower, I wanna learn Chadou, etc and the last I wanna meet my lovely Idol. :)
It's a place I've always wanted to go.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if the 24 hour flight, each way, would be part of the two weeks or it would be separate?
Perhaps this marks me as the stereotypical otaku, but before the earthquake, I would have answered "Japan" in a heartbeart. To a certain degree, I still want to.
Thailand, however, has begun to lure me in.
Morocco. I've always wanted to got here...do some shopping for rugs and brass...maybe some wonderful jalabas. I used to have one and it just fell apart. So comfortable.
I'd go to Japan for a week and then Seoul South Korea for the second week! I love both Japan and South Korea a lot, and would really love to visit both places if I ever got the chance.
At first thought, I'd say Japan. After giving it a bit more thought, I'd say I'd stay right here in America- IF i could use that "free of charge" rule to pay off my outstanding bills in one fell swoop. Lollll 8P
It's really hard to choose one. I love most of his movies, especially the ones directed by Tim Burton and the POTC films are great too... I guess I'd say Sweeney Todd, hearing him sing was really interesting in that and I really love the story too. Johnny was the perfect choice to portray the demon barber.
Germany! Hands down and without a second thought! :)
Of course it would be a bit difficult for my family and all - there are other responsibilities that I would need to be sure were taken care of first off before leaving. I couldn't just go without making sure they were going to be okay.
However, if all the ducks were lined up, I'd go visit Germany. :)
If I were given the opportunity to spend two free weeks in any country, I would have to pick Japa. Once, I almost had the opportunity to do that for a summer through a Mobility International USA exchange program. Two years in a row, I appled to go an the various trips; however, I wasn't selected as one of the applicants. Doing that would've given me the opportunity to show people in those countries what people with disabilities in the USA like to do for fun, as well as try to learn their language.
Ireland. I want to ramble around the countryside, visit Brighid's well(s), eat the food, go to as many cities and smaller towns as possible, hear the language.
'Course, spending two weeks free here in my own country would be damned nice.
Мой любимый фильм с Джонни Деппом - "Страх и ненависть в Лас-Вегасе" ("Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas").
USA...........never been there. Yet it is the place which has most influenced my life. TV, music, movies, a bigger impact on me culturally than any other culture apart from my own.
Id love to see it but if US Immigration Service has any sense they wont let me out of the airport and send me straight home again. Id only start a small socialist revolution....indeed the sole purpose of my visit.
I don't ever want to visit a foreign country. Not worth my time. Even if it was free of charge. I don't see the point of visiting a place that is far away from my own country. I wish I could live free of charge where I am though. Oh, the things I would do in America.
I would go to Egypt. It's one of those awesome historical places that I've always wanted to see. Maybe when we are old and fancy-free we will make a trip across the world!
Whoa, difficult. Well… From Hell is a movie I LOVE. Sweeney Todd would be next on the list. Then Sleepy Hollow, then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Edward Scissorhands, Secret Window, The Ninth Gate, Alice in Wonderland, Once Upon a Time in Mexico. See? It's terribly difficult to decide. xD
I have to go I'll try to update everyone when I get pack home or while there if I have the internet.
ITALY! Dang, someone somewhere is trying to taunt me. I've been trying to save up (and currently failing ) for an Italy trip for the longest time... the plan is to travel Sienna, Rome, Florence and Venice. It's just something about the history, the beautiful architecture and all the stories I've read that has me day-dreaming at times!! Honestly.. all did was take one history class and I've been sucked in since.
Italy. Because for some reason, my dream to have a huge green house and a fixed-up from broken-down tiny house in Ireland seems more achievable than my dream to be a sheep farmer out in the countryland of Italy.
Tonight I said goodbye to a few people at work. It's kind of sad actually. Aside from the ladies I work with up front, the people overnight at my store were usually really awesome. I honestly don't even know everyone's names like I should, but I'm still going to miss them. It's sort of sucky that I won't be able to find them on Facebook or anything. Though I did tell Vincent how to find me. We'll see if that Alternate Name will work properly in search. And I hope Desiree will be there tomorrow, because I only got around to asking some people if they'd be there tomorrow night (which is actually tonight, but I'm sorry, if I have to sleep for eight hours prior to doing something, it is happening tomorrow). Argh. I don't know. I feel like a bad person that I'll never know most of these people's names and they were always so cool to me.
Anyway, if you want to add me on Facebook, my name on there is Kj Ashley Falter. Just let me know it's you.
Question: How did I not know Defiance existed? Was I not the one obsessed with Jews and also brothers? What the hell?
It looks so good! I already ship Jamie Bell's Character/Liev Schreiber's Character and Jamie Bell's Character/Tuvia. I only caught two names from the clip. Everything looked very Russian, and sounded very Russian... as it was meant to, but I'm not in the habit of remembering Russian names very well. Watch the clip I watched.
Pretty sure I missed the opening episodes to Falling Skies. Sorry, Noah. I'm in a slightly frenzied state for absolutely no reason.
Well, no reason other than the people at all the different stores I'm communicating with, can't get a simple transfer to go through.
