Writer's Block: Fool Me Once...

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend or partner who asked for forgiveness? Were you able to forgive and/or forget? What was the result?

Deceit and betrayal are some of the biggest reasons I can't trust people.  I recall being betrayed by one friend, and she didn't ask for forgiveness.  She had pretty much changed to a different person and did some unforgiveable things.  I had quit talking to her afterwards.

There were some friends who eventually didn't reply to my e-mails, contact me, or update me on their contact information.  By the time I found out, I had already lost trust in people.  When I got Facebook, they wouldn't add me to their Friends Lists, making me feel abandoned or betrayed.  I don't know what the reason is, so I'm not sure if I will be able to forgive them.

Most of the "friends" who betrayed were those repeatedly put me down and lied.  Unfortunately, it took me too long to realized that they were false friends who were just spying or using me.  Some apologized and asked for forgiveness,  while others didn't.  I eventually made up my mind to cut off all communication with them.

It's almost impossible to forgive people for betrayal.  Besides, once a traitor, always a traitor.

If you worked for a newspaper, which section of the paper would you like to write for, and why?

I wrote for the school newspaper in high school and college, and I usually wrote for the News or Features sections.  I would just interview people and do some research, then organize and put the facts together to write the articles.  I am better at writing facts after all.  Sometimes, I would write for the sections requiring opinions.  I am not a sports person, so I would not write for the Sports section.  I did write one article, but it was about a sports award assembly, not the games themselves.

I guess just the simple comfort of familiarity. Other than that, there's nothing to miss unfortunately. Which is quite sad, since I've always thought this city would always be much better to live in than where I grew up, but it's about the same give or take.

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal, action figure, or doll growing up? If so, what was it and what happened to it?

When I was younger I had a stuffed gray and white cat named "Sookie". I'm not sure why that was her name but apparently it was my choice. I had my cat for as long as I can remember until I moved in with my ex boyfriend. I know I left her at my parents place but sadly we are unable to find her. Now that I'm back on my own it feels kind of nice re connecting with my old things and finding myself again. It would be really nice if I could find my cat again but I guess shes gone forever to the depths of my basement. :(

Which of your favorite childhood stories would you like to make into a game? What kind of game would it be?

Ohmygoodness. When I was a kid, I used to read books from a series called Shivers by M.D. Spenser. They're kind of like Goosebumps books, but they always scared me more. Many of those books would make great indie survival horror/adventure games, like Frictional Games' Penumbra and Amnesia games.

Other than that, I think a survival horror version of Snow White would be amazing, or any of the classic fairy tales, really. They're all pretty twisted when you think about it...

Peace, y'all!

My first thought is the Editorial Page, but then I realize people may not take it seriously because it mostly what I believe. So, I would prefer to report the News an unbiased and strictly fact-based standpoint. These days it is so difficult to sort the real from the fake and I want to inject integrity back into journalism.

If you worked for a newspaper, which section of the paper would you like to write for, and why?

I did work for a newspaper for a while. It was one of the best jobs I had, up until they started cutting people and we were all fearing for our careers on a daily basis.

I find it interesting that this question focuses only on the Editorial section -- the journalists/writers. There are so many more parts to a newspaper than that! I worked both production and pre-press, meaning that we were the people who put the advertising together and made sure the paper got on the press at the right time (this never happened). When you go home from work smelling like ink and photo processing chemicals, you know you've had a good day. We were the stagehands, the set designers, we weren't the actors, and that's kind of where I liked being.

This question also leaves out other vital parts of the newspaper -- the photographers, the salespeople, the pressmen (I'd say presswomen, but they're still very rare, even in this day and age; everyone always went silent when I walked into the press room, so as to not offend my virgin ears [ha!]), the folks in circulation...or the folks in charge of hiring, or the receptionist who can direct you where to go. Newspapers aren't just the story, especially nowadays with profits ranking far over people (I'm totally bitter, yes). Don't get me wrong: the folks in Editorial are awesome (though when I got downsized, they also tossed out some of their best writers...morons). But they aren't what keeps the paper going :)

I suppose, if I had to be a writer, I'd want to do the restaurant reviews and/or the local happenings -- concerts, festivals, and the like. This really shouldn't surprise anyone.

If you worked for a newspaper, which section of the paper would you like to write for, and why?

This is an interesting question, and I have three answers:

Editor's Notes - I'd ideally like to be Editor in Chief, but then I'd write editorials about topics that interested me, as well as be involved with most of the areas of the paper.

Obits - this may sound dark/strange, but I think it is interesting to read about how one describes an entire life in a paragraph. You can learn a lot about someone. And the other announcements usually fall in this section too (wedding/engagements/new babies). So, its like seeing the entire "circle of life"

The other is a bit of a tie: Sports/ Technology  -- If I were to get the sports section, I'd get press badges to see all the games and meet cool athletes, but then I'd have to write about all the steroids and crime too. If I got the tech section, I would be able to see the latest gadgets and review new products that are coming out, which is pretty cool.

Easy peasy. Food, with occasional flirtations with the A&E section. I've actually been considering starting a food blog....not sure how that would go, but hey, might be fun. I both like to eat out and I like to cook....I've lately been making some picture worthy food.

And because everything comes back to my current relationship status, I'd say things are WAY easier there, as my current circle of roommate, friends, and new guy will eat just about anything I put in front of them.

So yeah, I'd write for the food section.

If you worked for a newspaper, which section of the paper would you like to write for, and why?

I would do the Political section. I'm a member of the Millennium generation, and I don't see enough people my age getting involved with their local and state level governments. I think they feel it is a waste of time due to all the issues in our economy and they are still in the mindset that "the grown-ups will work it out." What they don't understand is that we are now an active member of this political system. In the 2008 elections, "an estimated 23 million young Americans under the age of 30" showed up to vote according to CivicYouth, an online newspaper that watches the trackings of what the younger generation is interested in following. Today the number of young Americans likely to turn up in the 2011 polls is down by 25%.

Obama made politics fun and relatable during his campaign in ’07-’08. He inspired people with a can-do-attitude and and gave hope to a bracket of American youth that were eager to see what their government could do to support them and in turn, what they could do to support their government. Obama made attempts to relate to those Americans that were coming out of high school and brought celebrity fame to an elder group of perceived hard noses; even going so far as to throw in a Lil Wayne joke at one of his conferences in Texas. Unfortunately, not everyone is as enthusiastic about President Obama’s run in the office, but whatever your political views today, his run for the office in 2008 had the highest turn out of Young Americans in history. This is the passion we need to see from every candidate for any office, be it the election of a town mayor, state representative, or for president. This fire—this energy—will secure our future with a solid group of Americans to one day take over the offices that will otherwise be left open and unfilled, resulting in a worsening economy, corrupt justice system, and bad education for the generation after us.

If politics were made more accessible to the Millennium generation, more people would take a stand against things like job creation, affordable healthcare, and college tuition rates that are unaffordable. Too often do I hear young adults on campus complain that they cannot afford to continue their education another year because they cannot find a job to support themselves while away from home. When asked about how they feel Obama has done in fulfilling his pledges to America and if they would vote for him again, many have said no; they feel disheartened by the lack of progress and are tired of hearing things like “it won’t be easy” or “it won’t happen overnight.” I asked them who they would likely vote for on the republican side out of those that have been said to be considerably a run for office, and no one was able to give me a name—no one knows who they are. Even though nominees like Romney and Gingrich have been obstacles of political scrutiny for months now.

Sarah Palin was the only name on the republican side that those I have spoken to knew of, and several didn’t know she was a republican! On the flip side, many adults claim that Palin could never be president because she is more of a celebrity figure then an actual politician with her own reality show and the attention her daughter has received for being a participant on Dancing With the Stars. But it is exactly that fame and recognition and knowledge of what is popular in today’s media that is needed to bring our generation into the political realm and get them interested and to stay interested! It doesn’t matter if youth turn out for one vote in 2008, or if the next round of adolescents graduating in the next four years will turn out for the 2016 elections (the first opportunity we have for a full scale election). If they are not interested, if they don’t believe their opinion is valued and respected, they will come once and see ya later!

easy. editorial/opinion page. why not?!
well mainly, and first off, i would actually have to have the skill to start with. i don't. this isn't me being self-deprecating or fishing. it's just a fact. but if skill and talent were no object, i would definitely choose the editorial/opinion page. it's not so much because i have a lot of opinions or even that i'm comfortable expressing those opinions, i just like that there's a little more elbow room, i feel, in comparison to other articles/pieces that strictly report and cover the news.

hopefully, tho, if i ever have the accidental great fortune to write for or be in charge of an opinions page, it would be a touch more exciting than a lot of my blog entries... including this one!

I DO work at a newspaper, and this is a sutpid question. Here's why: I work for ALL the sections; I write municipal news, education reporting, police reporting, arts and entertainment, dining, and I'm even a sometime sports editor. This is because newspapers are dying, and gradually doing more and more work with less and less people. Pretty soon they'll be doing nothing with no one.

I'd write for the sports section because all sports journalists suck.  They write for the easiest section in which to slip perverted jokes about balls, gloves, and home runs, yet they don't do it.

Take the recent NBA Championship.  LeBron James was often criticized for passing too much and failing to take enough shots, which ultimately led to weak late-game performances.  Not once did I read anything like, "If he had kept his hands on his ball, then maybe he could have gone all the way." or "Jason Kidd was diving for loose balls, so why wasn't LeBron down there with him?"

And this is a shame, ladies and gentlemen.  I feel that it is my duty...no, my holy purpose in life to save the world, one cock joke at a time.

Я бы хотела отвечать на письма читателей)))))Мне кажется это очень интересно. Ну или...обзоры фильмов и сериалов. А вообще...в идеале...светскую хронику)))звездные сплетни).

Human interest. Those blurbs at the back of the newspaper that are about frivolous, rediculous, hilarious or hart warming things. Newspapers depress the hell out of me, I realize better than anyone just how craptacular this world is but I refuse to believe that nothing good ever happens! I want to give people something to smile about after reading all the doom and gloom
