Writer's Block: Part deux

Which movie sequel do you like better than the first, and why?
So the writers block question is what movie sequel do I like better than the first and why? Hands down I have to say BATMAN BEGINS and DARK KNIGHT are much better than the preceding Batman movies. One because they have a better story to tell, two because they are no where near as dark as the first one, third the Batman character is played but a better actor and fourth the supporting characters and villians are more 3D in their character portrayal. Yep, definitely Batman sequels.

As for other sequels, there are a few that I found more enjoyable to watch.....namely the last Twilight movie was MUCH better than the first one. The direction was better, the characters actually did some acting instead of just reading lines and Jacob, what can I say, LOL.

Just a list:
Madagascar 2 was better than the first one.
I'm still a die hard Star Wars: New Hope but the original 3 (in reality the sequels) were 10X better than The Phantom Menace.
Star Trek First Contact heads over heels better than Generations.
Star Trek The Movie (last one) 100% better than 8/10th's of the other Original cast movies. Exceptions might be Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation as the 3rd part of a series was better than its predecessors....and its funnier too!

I'm sure I could think of more if I just took the time. For the moment, this is the beginning of my list. Perhaps I'll add more to it as they come to me.

Update this journal? (laugh) Though I think whether or not that is important is debatable. I've been busy with other things, work, touring the countrysides in search of a perfect stargazing site, combing the beaches and spending not enough time having fun with friends. I suppose that might be another thing I'm forgetting here.

What do you so strongly believe in that you would march in the streets to support, and why?

Gay rights. I've marched for it several times, actually.

Over 90% of my friends are gay, and I'm bi myself.
I think that the people who I love and who have been there for me should have the same rights and tolerance level as anyone else. My friends are wonderful, and I love them, no matter what sexuality they are. One of my best friends is gay, and it never comes to mind, EVER. i never think about, nor do I find it strange. I don't see why other people do.

Which movie sequel do you like better than the first, and why?

The first movie that pops into my mind is Aliens. You'd think it'd be impossible to top Alien, but the only thing worse than one of H.R. Giger's monsters is a hundred of H.R. Giger's monsters. Plus you've got all those memorable lines, like "Get away from her YOU BITCH" and "Game over, man, game over!" Classic.

Terminator 2 is another sequel that was way better than the original, but I think we all agree on that.

I wish that Young Guns II was better than the first one, mostly because I'm a fan of Christian Slater and you fuckers in the back row can just shut your goddamned mouths, but everyone died without riding off into the sunset and the wild west died with them... and it didn't even have a tombstone. /rimshot  /crickets  /jokethatnobodygets  /failatfunny

I never saw the first Mad Max, but I enjoyed the sequel (not the third or the fourth or however many others they made--just the second). I also thought Godfather II was more interesting than the first, and I don't care what anyone else thinks, I was as happy as a California cow when I saw The Lost World (the sequel to Jurassic Park). What can I say, I love a good dinosaur movie.

first off, may i say these remind me of those writing prompts on standardized tests? i loved those! anyhoo, i support womens right mann. saying rape is caused by womens clothing and the way they act? more like by a man who cant take no for an answer and get some real action. i feel like rape is the most disrespectful thing anyone could do to another and it mostly happens to women. also i feel like there is a lot of sexism still in the world. there was this movie rule..i forget what its called. it has 3 questions: does the movie have 2 women? do they interact? when they interact do they talk about anything other than the guy? .... keep that in mind next time you watch a movie. itll blow your brains out. however im against violence but a peaceful protest, why nottt?

I keep forgetting to find my high school transcripts in case I wanna go back to school... and my social security card and birth certificate... I also forgot a lot of my clothes at my mom's house the last time I was in Wisconsin. I forget stuff everyday. If I don't make a note, I forget ALL THE TIME! I know I'm probably forgetting something as I write this...

Un-fucking-canny that this is the Writer's Block on the day I forget my passport, thus missing my flight home. It is times like these that test a man's faith, nay, that a spiritual power may be at play, but rather that it isn't a ball on a cosmic roulette table in which all the Universal Forces-that-Be say, "You know what, this guy, let's totally fucking destroy this guy today!"

Oh well. As targeted as I feel, the worst part always is that I have nobody to blame but myself.

I would have never decided that living in denial was a good thing, and I would have started to transition into a woman as soon as sixteen(when I made my horrible mistake) and started taking hormones as soon as i could then get what ever surgeries I deemed necessary.

Writer's Block: Fool me once...

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend or partner who asked for forgiveness? Were you able to forgive and/or forget? What was the result?

Actually I have. I forgave her cheating on me. I guess I can say it was easier that more than half a year had passed since she had stopped going out with him. She left me a couple of months after she told me she had though, and went out with . . . I don't know if I really want to tell anymore. It's pretty sad, and a sad statement for me too, opening myself up in my loyalty to be such a 'fool'. I guess the rest will be left a mystery for strangers, and stay between myself and my friends.

I forgot to fill out the paperwork to renew the hold on my student loan since I'm not getting many hours at work right now. They sent letters to my family members and my aunt loudly presented me with mine at a family gathering. ...I still need to fill out the second batch of paperwork they sent me actually...

I had this big test for a class my freshman year. The professor and grad school helper emphasized how difficult this test was and how many people failed. I was determined that wouldn't be me. So I studied extra hard and woke up early to study before class. Well I was so concerned about studying that I actually missed the big test. Luckily the class was set up so that you could either take all 6 tests and opt out of the final or replace one of the test scores with the final. I just remember all my hard work for nothing. Ha ha!

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York was funnier than the original because Kevin was older and Macauley Caulkin had settled into the child actor role better by then.  Shrek 2 had better animation and effects than the original, but the plots/humour were equally good :)

OK, if you must know, I frequently forget to dot my I’s and cross my T’s on things that matter.

I left my mother-in-law stranded at the airport once. I was there waiting 40 minutes for her…it just wasn’t at the right place (and of course, I had forgotten my cell phone).

The very important thing I got to do was create a bill and learn about the legislative process in politics.  I got to do this when I was attending the Youth Eith Disabilities Leadership Summit  a few years ago.  I learned how a bill becomes a law.  I even learned that people with disabilities can work together to make change.

Writer's Block: Taking it on the road

What was the longest road trip you ever went on? How did you pass the time?

My first trip to Japan was so long. Probabl just seemed longer than it was due to the crying and the headaches and the not being able to sleep in vehicles EVER syndrome.
My DS died halfway during the flight and I dropped my mp3 player and the batteries popped out of it and rolled across the plane to places I couldnt see.

So basically I just read books for the 12 plus hours.
Until it was 'night' time and I had to stop reading 'cause all the lights went off. At which point I sat there for like four hours bored out of my mind.

Have you ever forgotten to do something really important? What was it?

On a humid Thursday morning, June 2, 1995, I walked into my office at Transformations, ltd. Tucked back in a large central Florida industrial park, the company was a prop house and we all thought of ourselves as major event planners. The truth was we were just a small group of people selling tinfoil illusions to the corporate meeting planners and hoteliers who would listen for five minutes.

I dropped my bag in a chair, but before I could even sit down to review what I had missed durning the week, Charlotte Downs marched into my office demanding my presence in the President's office. She wasn't one to be ignored, she could look any man in the eye, with her slightly too-close, determined eyes framed in a halo of dark, fiery red curls. I remember her how her hair contrasted against the vibrant purple of that sausage casing disguised as a dress. Maybe its me, but I just don't think large women should wear tight garments that highlight every indulgent menu choice over the last several years. None the less, I followed her overly tanned legs down the hall, into the industrial blue-grey office of our white haired leader who was on the phone.

As soon as the handset landed in the cradle, Charlotte began her pronouncement:
" You know we have been very impressed by the creativity that you have shown here and we had hoped that this arrangement would be a lasting one. There is one thing however, that we will not tolerate. And that is missing an appointment with a client!"

Suddenly, my clouded head was shattered with the thunderbolt of the implication of what she was saying.

"Wha-what appointment did I miss?" I stammered as I frantically tried to remember everyone I had called in the last two weeks.

"You had an appointment with the catering manager at Grosvenor Hotel last Thursday. She called here very irate that your no-show wasted her valuable time and she wouldn't do business with a company who didn't have common curtesy to call if there was a problem!" She stood there, a tower of resolute determination wearing too much eye shadow.

I was dumbfounded. And then wave after wave of emotion rolled over me and I shot back at Charlotte, "And you couldn't tell her that I got an emergency call to deal with my father's terminal illness?!"

"These things happen, but our policies remain. You need to clean out your things. Your position has been terminated."

"But my father just died three days ago! And now your firing me?" It was so surreal, I just couldn't seem to wrap my head around what was happening.

The old man looked at me and said, "I am truly sorry for your loss, son."

I ran outside when I heard the kids I nanny SCREAMING!! It was only a squabble over toys, so I settled the problem and went back in the house - where I realized the water in the kettle I'd put on the stove had boiled away! I tried to remove the kettle and it had fused to the glass stovetop, and BROKE as I tried to lift the kettle!! Thankfully, I learned that my employer had also done this once, and had bought insurance against it happening again!! The replacement cooktop was covered by insurance and she bought an electric kettle which would avoid this happening again!

Which movie sequel do you like better than the first, and why?

This one is easy for me.  Most sequels aren't as good as the original, and of the ones that are as good there are very few that I like better than what came before.

But one of the few that I can say was heads and shoulders better than the original was X2: X-Men United.  I mean, the first X-Men movie was good but X2 just took the series to the next level.  Which made X-Men 3: The Last Stand even more disappointing to watch.

I just love everything about X2.  The dialogue, the plot set up and execution, the new characters and character development, the different scenery.  One of my top favorite movies.

I don't think I have. Almost forgotten, but never actually forgotten.

One of my friends forgot to feed/water my animals while I was away on a 3 day trip. She still apologizes for it, and writes everything down now. My animals were very happy to see me, and were fine. I called her once I let the poor dog outside and it hit her when I called... she apologized all over herself... we laugh about it now. Even if I lived there still I would not ask her to watch my pets again. :/

Yeah probably...but I forgot what it was.  Let's see....ok I forgot to get an education, so let's say I went to The School Of Life Experience and got my Mrs. degree. Once I forgot to use birth control...and have a 20 yr old son as a result, but that's ok, he's been a fun kid so I don't resent him or anything.  Hm...I forgot to water the dill for a couple of days and it died, so if I want to make a decent tzaziki sauce I have to buy the stuff, and at $3 for a little teeny bit, I don't make it very often.  That reminds me...I need to give the dogs their heartworm prevention stuff.

It was a 10 hour trip to Illocos Norte (a province in this country of mine) a few years back and me and my cousins just started playing 'Truth or Dare: For Drunkard's' Well, we weren't really drunk. We were just lucky that our cousin forgot to bring down the beer that his Dad told him to buy for his party XD So, there was a lot to go around. By the time we arrived, we all ran to the closest bush, tree, hole, sewage and toilet that we could find ((:

I tend to forget people's names. I forgot to switch my sunglasses with my regulars before my college commencement and I was running around half blind until I got them. I had to tell someone the reason I didn't recognize him was because I couldn't see him. I've forgotten to get my brother's work address so I can send him the cap and mini Arc de Triomphe I bought for him in Paris. And on a similar note, I can't remember what I did with the gold tokens that I bought from every church and museum in Paris.

Once I forgot that I was supposed to be in Santa Barbara (which is about 7 hours from our place in Sacramento) for my sis-in-law's graduation at 8 o'clock the next morning. The hubby and I had to drive all night. (Apparently, my husband hadn't forgotten; he though I had *planned* to drive all night. WTF?)

I forgot my mom's birthday once. She cried. Most recently, both my husband and I forgot our wedding anniversary. We are absentminded people around here!

Which movie sequel do you like better than the first, and why?

Hmmm... it's interesting that at first thought, I tend to feel that most sequels are crap compared to the first film in a series... But when I think about it in more detail, there are actually quite a few sequels that I really love - I'm just not sure if I'd say I like them better than the first - they're more on even ground.

For instance - Back to the Future 2 and 3 were awesome, but I still love the first film just as much. Ghostbusters 2 is one of my favourite films of all time, but the first one is brilliant as well. Short Circuit 2 is a film I used to watch constantly from a tape-recorded video I had for years as a young kid, but I still love the first one as well.

I guess I could name Short Circuit 2 as a film I enjoyed a lot more though, probably because I've seen it so many more times than the first one from watching it on the tape for all those years.

And I'm sure there are plenty of other films I could name here but then I'd just be writing a huge essay, and I can't be bothered doing that :P

This is the most absurd question I have ever seen on LJ's writer's block.

Have you ever forgotten anything important?

What was it?

If I have forgotten it, then I couldn't tell you what it was, could I?

Moreover, if I have forgotten it, it wasn't really that important, now was it?

When I first moved to Japan, I got invited to dinner by some students on a Sunday. My working week had changed from Mon-Fri, to Tuesday- Saturday, and I kept forgetting that the first day of my weekend was Sunday.

So I was in the middle of buying (on Sunday, which I thought was Saturday) a sofa when I got a phone call asking me where I was, everyone else was sitting in the restaurant waiting for me. I had to run to the train station, it took me half an hour to get there and I really wasn't dressed for it.

It was very embarrassing, but my co-worker had guessed what had happened and explained it to everyone else.

Thankfully they found it quite amusing, and didn't think I was really, really rude. Needless to say, I learned which day was which after that.
