When I first started working at CVS I couldn't stand my first boss, and he drove me nuts. One time he even said that he would basically never get fired from CVS and that I would be fired way before he could.
Well he got fired for having somebody work on truck day who didn't technically work there. I still work with CVS to this day at a different store with a much better boss. Austin you were ok as a person but you were a horrible boss.
I had a boss who would constantly yell about how we're all lazy asses, then go out and take food from the stands and hang out outside the door all day. To top it all off, he was using us as a cover for his drug dealings, and we all ended up going to the police station to identify him.
My mum was the worst by far (not that I've had many..)... I basically ran an entire caravan park with general store/bait shop and fuel pump.. the only thing I wasn't selling was alcohol which I'd have to call her in for and I was only 15 (I turned 16 while it was happening..) It was only for 3months and I was only getting paid a $50 credit recharge each week... Gypped as!!!
I will try harder.
Horrible bosses? Nothing too awful. They've mostly been women so just a lot of bitchiness.
I've never technically HAD a horrible boss, I've never actually worked at a real job before. I baby-sit, and all the parents I baby-sit FOR are really, really nice! I can't complain! The kids are pretty sweet, too! I mean, a few are brats, but that's both tolerable and understandable. They're children.
So no, I've never really had "the worst boss" and I've never seeked revenge against one!
Hello, well I do not have the best English because I am Brazilian, but the worst boss you've faced I believe that was the Dracolhit, well it is very difficult but if you are accompanied by powerful shamans and this problem ends
I would say my manager from Firehouse Subs, Louis--but my hat's off to Lorraine Phillips for being -THE- worst Assistant Store Manager I have ever encountered. If you can imagine Cruella DeVille being hispanic--bad makeup and hair included--and match her with the personality of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wear's Prada, you have Lorraine.
Lorraine, was a power house. Nothing got past her. If you did it three times, you did it again. If it was crooked, you were an idiot. If you found the wrong color, you were unreliable. If it was the wrong brand, you were incompetent. If you were not done on time, you were fired with no warning.
I was seventeen, and working myself into an early depression. I worked nights and weekends at the restaurant but I wanted a second job. Taylor had broken up with me and I didn't want to think how the only perfect human in my world--other than Michael--had just dumped me. Lorraine hired me the day I interviewed, and I was surprised to be making 7.50 an hour--the same as any other full time employee at Belk, even though I was seasonal and should have gotten minimum wage. It was December, so I had a lot to learn in a short amount of time. I worked closely with Lorraine; she showed me to how grid the racks--making sure they lined up. I showed her that I was efficient at organizing brands, colors, sizes. So she took me to the Kids, Men, and Home store, and I became entirely content. "Brittany I want you to organize this entire area." done. I learned very quickly not to bullshit around. She wanted it done? It got done, and done well. When I was near, she was talk about me as if I were not here. Lorraine was always in another world, three steps ahead. So as far as she was concerned, I wasn't there, listening to her degrade me.
When she gave me my first compliment, the rest of the girls who worked in the same department as I started to call me "Little Lorraine". And it was true. I was her dog. I was working 44 hours a week and no one seemed to care or notice that she broke child labor law by doing so. I didn't care. Mom was sick and out of work, so I had to pay the rent. In a way, I didn't mind it. I got the hang of it after a while. I tried to think of it as, promotion, promotion. Black Friday, the worst day of my working life. I was so nervous I could not sleep. And I was working a straight 4AM-4PM shift. I found out an hour before we opened I was going to be wrapping presents.
What is this wrapping?
I've never wrapped a present a day in my life.
I had half an hour to practice.
I sucked at it.
I still do to this day.
Soon Christmas came and went. And I was not released from my position. I worked well into the next year, and it was wearing me down. No promotion, no nothing. I was getting ill-tempered from doing the same things over and over because she wanted to "make sure" they were being done.
One day, Lorraine said, "Brittany. I am looking for a Table Cloth in the attic. It's yellow, but it's a -pale- yellow. I want it for this table." She told me something along the lines of earning my keep if I could find it. And I remember going up there. It's creepy as Hell. It's lit well, but it's so quiet it's disconcerting. All you can hear is the hum of the lights, like a barely audible buzz in your ear. It's the sort of place where you wander--if something falls and nothing is around to hear it, does it really make a sound? It took me a moment to find it. I wasn't even sure if that was the one she wanted. I was probably very sure it was not. She made it sound like it was impossible to find, but it was relatively easy. I had found the right one. And Lorraine smiled at me--actual legit genuine smile--and told me she was impressed. I had actually impressed the Devil's Advocate.
Not long after, I stopped showing up. Pretty bad of me, but nothing ever came of it but frustration and a few useful skills to tuck under my belt for future use. I will never forget how power-hungry that lady was. It's not really something I could describe in full detail here, it's one of those personalities you have to witness to really believe. Sometimes I wonder who worked her the way she worked me, and so forth and so on. I suppose, after finally becoming worthy of recognition, disappearing on her was some sort of revenge in a way. Like, "Aha~! I got what I wanted after all then left you hanging." But I am certain she has moved on to bigger, better things. Lorraine always had her eye on the big picture.
No question... Natalee S. I remember when I first started working at that horrible company. A guy transferred to my department from sales, then quit just a few weeks later. I kept in touch with him briefly, and he said he quit because the company lied to him and said he would work directly under someone he liked better. After he transferred, he found out he had to work under Natalee, then later quit for that reason and he told me that. Eventually, her superior put in her notice and that seat was up for grabs. EVERYONE in the department was hoping for a girl named Ashley to get the position... then there was the utter silence from the shock and disappointment when Natalee was named boss. Under her leadership, I watched that department become shadier and shadier, violating contracts established with businesses by adding extra fees that we were told to hide in the invoices so that the companies would never know. She was ruthless and blew off the company's chain-of-command. Immediate supervisors were supposed to discipline/coach employees, and the bitch bypassed this order and fired people she didn't like.
I remember she tried to set up monthly happy hours for department cohesion... and apparently she was the only one who went, so all future events were canceled. I think that should have indicated how odious and deplorable of a person she is. Not a single person in that company that I talked to had a favorable opinion of her, and many outright hated her. When I was there, working under her was intolerable... and though I no longer work there anymore, old co-workers tell me working under her is now unbearable.
I have worked at several companies, and have absolutely NEVER had a boss as bad as Natalee. I hope for my own sake that I never do again. Not a workday morning went by that I didn't have intense nausea or excruciating stomach pains... or both. Many times I went to the bathroom to dry heave while at work. I started getting a facial tic, had shaky hands, daily headaches and really just started to hate life in general. This was all thanks to that horrible, horrible cunt Natalee.
In truth, the worst was the one who followed his father's words rather than his own instinct as to today's world. I never needed to gain revenge. The shop closed in less than six months.
But, having had that job taught me quite a bit. For instance, burning a bridge by seeing what could come is a bad idea. Keep the bridge fortified, be agreeable, and take the lessons each thing in life teaches you is a great way to live. It leaves no regret or anger.
OH! I WANT TO ANSWER THIS ONE! RENEE (no)HARTSFIELD! Fucking bitch. Treated me like shit since the first day I met her. One requested a weekend off months in advance only to have her call me the week before and tell me she couldn't give it to me, I had to pick one day only. Made me cry numerous times. Made me stay late. Didn't let me leave early even when I got someone to stay for me. Bitch! Bitch! Bitch! I asked a friend to stay longer on Valentine's Day so I could be with my now-hubby and she said if I wanted the day off I should have requested it! WTF? But I just let her do her thing, I let karma fix her. They transfered her ass, without notice to a store that makes less money then mine. Muwhahahaha! Now she has new people to torture!
I like to listen to anything by Paul Collier, preferably (15) Air. Close my eyes, focus on my breath until all thoughts are gone. Pretend that I am flying towards the horizon at sunset. I just let it take me wherever my minds chooses. It always, most instantly makes me smile, get goosebumps, and a happy tear. Moments like this define meditation, and proves that your greatest source of strength and hope is YOU.
I saw the movie in the theater when I was 14. I had seen the ads, but never thought I'd be interested in it. Forrest, despite his "simple" exterior, is amazingly intelligent in his own way. Tom Hanks did a fantastic job portraying Forrest, and the movie did a fantastic job of portraying Forrest's life as rich and rewarding despite his differences.
A female boss in a coffee shop where I worked a couple of years ago. Had a group of her favourite staff in a clique around her and treated everyone else like dirt. I never got revenge, but she lost her job not long ago, so I guess karma got revenge.
THE CONDUCTOR AND THE HOBO IN POLAR EXPRESS. HANDS DOWN. I love that movie to death and he played those roles so well. That is my top and number one favorite christmas movie EVER. <3 I happen to be a huge fanatic for trains. Oddly enough, I find the train whistles to be soothing. They don't bother me at all... nor do the sounds a train makes. :D I've been around them most of my life so that's probably why.
When I was younger (and had a little more confidence in myself) I wanted nothing more than to sing. I belonged to several music groups/choirs, any outlet that allowed me to be with music was ok by me.
One group focused on songs from the 60's and 70's though we did some 50's stuff here and there as well.
Yesterday was my first solo in this group and it became my song. I really loved being a part of something that could sound so beautiful though I'm sure we could have been a LOT better than we were.
Looking back on those times always makes me kinda regretful that I didn't have the courage to pursue music as a career, but as I said before, changing one piece of my past whould change me today and that will never do.
David Adowski is the worst boss i have ever had... He was unpleasant, ignored me, sneered at me, smelled like booze constantly and consistently allowed poor work performance of his favored employees and regular abuse/poor treatment of his hardest, fastest, and most efficient and personable workers.
So, yes, i got my revenge. I Closed the bar 2 hours early, did everything by the books (paper work, clocked out, counted cash, did cash drop) then wrote on a loose printing paper in the thickest sharpie marker i could find:
"I QUIT. <3 ROBERT :D"
Left that in his mailbox for him to find the next morning, most likely still drunk from staying up all night before, and walked right the fuck out of that piece of shit hotel.
I felt like i was walking on a rainbow with song birds accompanying mermaids riding unicorns whilst the galloped at my side. Biggest smile i've smiled in a long time. Felt soooo great to do!
i was free! that was last week.
Apollo 13. I've always been fascinated by the space program, and this is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again and never get bored with. Actually, I feel that way about a lot of Tom Hanks's movies (Big, Catch Me If You Can, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, and Toy Story just to name a few), but I think Apollo 13 will forever be my favorite. I've seen it probably hundreds of times by now, but I still find it exciting and thrilling every single time.
Well my favorite movie is "The Terminal" where Tom Hanks plays Victor, a man who travels to the US and gets stuck in a crack in the system when his home country (the fictional Krakosia, afaik) goes through a revolution and has their government temporarily overthrown. When Victor arrives in at the JFK airport in NY, he barely speaks any english. I must admit, the accent and broken speech and all that are my favorite part about this character. Victor is so smart, resourceful and friendly...I just love watching him interact with the other characters in the film. Victor is charming, funny and very lovable.
Also, "The Terminal" used to be the only grown up DVD my sister owned...so we used to sit down with huge piles of clean laundry and fold and sort all of the clothes for her and her kids while watching this film. We joke about our favorite scenes and I'm pretty sure I could practically recite this film.
BUT Tom Hanks is a great actor and I loved "Forrest Gump" as well as many of his other films.
It's definitely a three way tie between Forrest Gump, Chuck Noland from Cast Away and Woody from Toy Story 1,2 and 3.
I grew up with Toy Story- It's my childhood. Andy was the same age as me and I always thought it would be cool if my toys could talk.
Forrest Gump is always a favorite- so many quotable lines. I like that he was an underdog who rose to the top.
Chuck Noland was awesome and the way he was dedicated to Wilson (even thought it was just a blood-stained volleyball) was amazing. I know it's lame, but it will ALWAYS be my favorite.
The current great master of lies, deception & cover-ups?
The man who stages one vehicle accident to cover-up the damage of a previous drunken incident? (His, not mine. My accident was a honest screw-up).
The man who created a post-dated policy letter to use in terminating a friend of mine (the court saw thru it, my friend got pecuniary restitution).
The man who terminated another employee who was injured, had surgery and was on medical leave??? He also lost this case in court!
No one can trust him, no one can like him because of the distrust.
We have a pact, my co-workers & I. If one of us dies due to his incompetence...
I'm ashamed (or actually not) to say I've only had one real job in my life and my boss was a crazy bitch.
I worked at a a little chain education store called "A+ The Report Card" which was really cute and actually had a lot of good stuff in it.
To make a long story short, my boss would randomly start crying and telling us how her husband bought a new pair of shoes with the money she saved for DVDs or showing us her tattoo which was WAY to low on her hip to be appropriate. She took lunches that were ridiculously long, complain about my mom waiting inside for the ten minutes it took from us to close and count the money then have us entertain her family from Japan for an entire day.
The last straw was her snapping our underwear and "spanking" us with jump ropes. I was like O_o the fuck is wrong with you. She couldn't understand why were were all weirded out since it was "just fun and kidding around" but I had to leave after that.
I didn't get specific revenge but the entire company went out of business. Ha.
My favorite Tom Hanks movie is "You've Got Mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle." Both wonderful movies. I like Joe Fox aka Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail" because even though he's really stuck up and self-centered, he's a real romantic. He falls in love with a girl over the Internet for crying out loud. And I love that movie because--well it's just perfect. And we can't forget "The Godfather" scene, right? One of my favorite movie scenes. xD
I should note I have not watched Toy Story 3 and do not plan to. First movie is still my favorite. <3
It's difficult to play someone much older or much younger than your true age, but Hanks does it quite well here. He makes it believable that he's a 12-year-old in an adult's body. It doesn't seem stupid or awkward or phony. For an actor as relatively young (ironic choice of words) as he was then, he takes a difficult assignment and pulls it off. He does what every actor should do in every role; he makes me believe him. To make me believe him in an impossible premise is a real accomplishment.
My favorite is the character in Big! That movie is hilarious. It reminds me of my childhood b/c it came out when I was like 5. I like when they're in the store playing the giant piano with their feet! =)
Possibly not as well-known as his other roles, but I like Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan, from A League of Their Own.
Honestly, there's a special place in my heart for that movie, in many ways.
And, I just love it when he says, You gorgeous stack o' pancakes!
Are you crying?
(slow, tearful nod)
There's no crying in baseball!
You know, Forrest Gump was an amazing movie. I love it to this day, and I'll watch it anytime.
I also have a feeling that if I ever sit down and watch Saving Private Ryan, that may also be my favorite too. I really don't know why I haven't watched it, but I think I need to sometime. :)
Have a good day~ <3
Hopefully, I don't step on any toes here. I don't like Tom Hanks.
However, if I had to choose the best part he ever played? Was the officer in The Green Mile.
My favorite movie he was in was Cast Away. I mean, Jesus. He talks to a volleyball. Who doesn't love Wilson?
There's no way I can pick just one! I LOVE Tom Hanks. He's been one of my favorites since I was a kid. It all started with re-runs of Bosom Buddies for me. I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen and I wanted to see him do other things. Big is one of my favorite movies of all time, as it's been said before it's one of those movies that whenever it comes on, you stop what you're doing and watch it to the end. I LOVE IT. Turner and Hooch was one of my favorite movies to get whenever we'd rent them as a kid. I loved anything with a dog in it (this is the same kid that rented Man's Best Friend because it had a "cute doggie on it" LOL) and I thought it was awesome that my dad would watch it with me. At the same time, I love the hell out of The Terminal, Viktor makes me want to be a better, more patient person.
Everytime there is a question like this, I realize how little interest I have in movies. I know that he's probably one an oscar, and I could name a bunch of movies he was in, but to be honest I don't think that I've ever seen any. I read constantly and watch documentaries and an occasional sword and sorcerer type move like LOTR.
Difficult question that could have 10 different answers...but, I think my favorite movie with him in it is That Thing You Do (1996), where he plays Mr. White, a band manager who helps the Wonders rocket to fame. I love this movie, due to it's awesome music (most of which Hanks wrote), and for how each actor really fits their roles. If you haven't watched this, buy the DVD, it's that good.
My favorite Tom Hanks character is Woody from Toy Story becuase I love to watch the Toy Story movies.
I also like Forrest Gump, even though I cried a couple times, there was some times that made my laugh (like the scene with the Dr. Pepper)
What’s your favorite Tom Hanks movie or character, and why?
That poor guy. His career's been all downhill since he played Kip Wilson.
You know, I was joking when I started this post, but watching the opening credits reminded me just how much I liked that show, and what a great cast they had. And yes, a big part of its consistently-entertaining quality was the guy who would go on to become one of the big stars of the next three decade. His good humor, his improv chemistry with Scolari, and his ability, shared with Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, to maintain some level of gravitas in the most humbling, embarrassing situations all served him well both in this series and in his later career.
And I never thought of myself as a big Tom Hanks fan. I just enjoy his stuff -- but I enjoy it, I realize, pretty darned consistently, and have since the days when he and Peter Scholari answered every knock on the door with that distinctive falsetto "Who is it?"
the worst boss i've ever had was definitely AGT. he's the most inhuman and irrational person I've ever known. he only knows how to shout, scream, and threat. yes, he always threat me in the morning instead of simple greeting like 'good morning'. he only knows how to call people by certain animal. he also always had fun making fun of me in front of his guests. he would let me stand there like a clown, laughing, and pointing fingers at me. i left after merely two months working for the company. well, i guess that count as revenge, since they said it took some time (about 4 months) to found/recruit me. therefore i guess it'd take another 4 months to recruit someone else to replace me.
The Burbs, because it's so hilarious and outlandish, yet reminds me of my neighborhood.
Toy Story, because Woody is just too adorable, as well as the movies in general.
Cast Away, because the acting and dedication to the film is brilliant.
I would have to say the character he play in Big. It made quite an impression on me, as I watched it when I was very young and it was (probably) the first Tom Hanks film that I watched; I think he was really good at playing a teenager in the body of an adult - and very funny too!
Mr. White from That Thing You Do!.
He's a cool, calculating businessman who knows the music industry for being the meat factory that it is, but still has genuine affection for (at least a few of) his artists that manifests in subtle and interesting ways. He's also a gay man who's 1) not in love with the protagonist of the film and 2) doesn't get killed off in the end.
I REEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLLLYYYYY can't stand those parody/comedy movies like scary movie, date movie, etc. I actually saw Date Movie in theatres with a friend cuz people kept saying it was hilarious and apparently everyone in the audience thought it was. I literally had a straight face on throughout the whole movie with the exception of a light chuckle i let out when a penguin did a funny dance or something...but then he kept going and it was back to '_'. I just can't stand it when people try so hard to be funny or do it in such an obvious and...stupid way.... that's probably why I don't like Will Ferrel... No I'm kind of annoyed after talking about that crappy movie -_- *sigh*
Forresst Gump because it's hillarious
The Toy Story movies because they are classic Disney movies with timeless messages
That Thing You Do because that movie has a lot of great one liners and the catchiest title song ever! I also love Liv Tyler's monolouge when she is about to break up with Jimmy. Having seen this movie so many times I practically have that monologue memorized.
He has made so many fabulous movies.
I think his best was The Green Mile.
I also think The Terminal was underrated.
I think his three best roles were Forrest Gump, Philadelphia and Castaway.
If there was any American actor to rival Alec Guinness, it would be Tom Hanks.
I really liked Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. I thought he played those roles convincingly well. Those are also two movies I like overall too.
I've yet to see Green Mile -- I'm sure I'll like it when I see it. Adding it to my Netflix queue!
