What is your favorite foreign film? Do you think there should be an American remake?

Run Lola Run - it's a German movie, which shows three version of the same day, when the title character has to get money for her boyfriend who has lost a whole packet of it on a train.

It has a lot of random humourous moments, including showing events that happen to random passers-by, and there is a sequence where it turns into an animation as Lola runs down a flight of stairs; it's overall very well acted, and often becomes very arty too. Saying anything more about the plot would ruin it, though.

I wouldn't want a remake, American or otherwise, because nobody could do anything as well as the original, plus remakes tend to suck anyway (I stayed well away from the Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes for example). One tip about the movie, though - make sure you watch it in the original German; the English dubbed version has the characters talking in posh British accents that don't fit them at all.

Honourable mention goes to In the Mood for love; it is very well photographed, and almost voyeuristic, and the ending is refreshing since for once it doesn't have the whole cliche about "happily ever after" (sort of like Gone With the Wind, only without the "Tomorrow is another day" optimism.

What is your favorite foreign film? Do you think there should be an American remake?

If you had to participate in an eating contest, what food would you pick to eat?

Definately it would be jam doughnuts (from my favourite baker's) or dumplings with potato and cheese stuffing - I have an extra hamster-like mouth and stomach storage cavities for it!

Although it's not good to dose pleasures that way, I'm not a pig :)

Marianne Cotillard's performance in La Vie en Rose. And no, they should never remake it. This was by far one of the greatest performances I have ever seen by an actress in my entire life and no...no one will ever be able to do it better. So just leave it alone.

At the moment, it's The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain. But then, I haven't really watched enough foreign films to have enough comparisons to begin with. As for the remake, definitely not. Audrey Tautou is too precious to replace. Doing so would just turn out to be blasphemous to the whole movie.

Hmmm, favorite foreign film? That's a tough one. I think I'll take this to mean foreign-language film, though. Australia, Canada, England...sorry, we're not considering you today.

I've seen some really, really fine foreign films, but I think I'm going to have to say Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring is my favorite. Hard to be sure, though.

As for Hollywood remaking it, well, of course not. In fact, no one should ever remake it. They got it right the first time.

What is your favorite foreign film? Do you think there should be an American remake?

Zatoichi. And hell fucking no.

Zatoichi is my favourite film, period. I don't watch an awful lot of western cinema so this isn't too shocking. And I dislike the whole remaking foreign films in Hollywood thing anyway, but Zatoichi would be the worst film ever to remake.

It's about a blind swordsmen in fuedal Japan and deals with samurai and ronin. How exactly would that translate into western culture? They'd have to set the remake in Japan as well, otherwise it wouldn't work. And then literally the only difference would be the language. Which is an absurd reason to remake a film.

On a seperate note, how US-centric is this question? I'm from England, so an American film would still be foreign to me. The UK film industry isn't exactly huge (Harry Potter aside). But the way this question is phrased makes me think that I'm supposed to see American films as domestic. But what about LJ users from Japan or Korea that have a massive film industry themselves?

LiveJournal isn't American. The internet is not American. Please learn this.

The Swedish Millennium trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels), and the Finnish / Chinese Jadesoturi. There's already going to be an American version of Dragon Tattoo (which is what I assume this question is about), but no, I don't think there should be a remake of Jadesoturi.

It's called 'The Chorus' or Les Choristes in French and it is stunning and flawless. If there was an American remake, I would boycott it, you have no idea. The other films I adore are Zwartboek, Minoes, Alles is Liefde and In Oranje.. but that's because I grew up in Holland. Again, NO to American remakes - but with those four.. they are like.. Dutch? You might not get them in English so.. yes, leave them alone.

La vita è bella(Life is Beautiful) an Italian film, Is one of my all time favorites. I also love   El Laberinto del Fauno(Pan's Labrynth) By mexican director Guillermo Del Toro. I would absolutely HATE it if either of the two were remade by American film production companies. It would be an absolute disaster given the subject matter of each film, not only that they are perfect the way they are!

Can I assume we're talking about foreign language films? If not, I'll be forced to go a-ranting about The Italian Job, and it won't be pretty. Some of my other favorites have been remade as well. If you're really wondering where I stand on this, Yojimbo is better than A Fistful of Dollars and Seven Samurai is vastly superior to The Magnificent Seven. Sorry, Clint and Yul. It's true.

With that out of the way, nobody but Bergman could do justice to The Seventh Seal. Do I mention this film a lot? It's because it's brilliant. Direct appeal to Woody Allen: Persona 2--I mean, Interiors was great. But don't push your luck (further). Please.

This is a hard question since there's quite a few foreign films I like. I think Oldboy comes to mind first because the movie is insane and hard to forget. It's twisted, has dark humor, violent, and did I mention twisted and fucked up? Excellent movie as is.

Unfortunately, it's being remade in America. By Spike Lee.

... NO.

This is why other countries hate us so much. I'm thinking of becoming Canadian, no lie. -.-;

And I wish Rec 2 had been remade in America. We did pretty well remaking the first film into Quarantine, but the American sequel deviates so far away from Rec 2 that I'm actually glad they didn't remake it because I doubt it would've lived up to the creepiness of Rec 2.

I'm not american, so all american films are considered foreign films to me, however let's pretend I'am. I cannot choose just one foreign film because there's two that I absolutely love. They are "Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amélie Poulin" and "Goodbye, Lenin!". I do not think there should be an american remake, the original performances are incredible and so powerful that I don't think a remake would do them justice.

By foreign, I suppose it believes most people here to be American. As I am not, I'll just refrain from mentioning any English title.

I'd actually believe my favorite movie to be Låt den rätte komma in, although I have plenty. It's such a beautiful movie and it stays relatively close to the novel. There has been an American remake, and it was horrifying (in a negative sense). La Cité des enfants perdus is also one of my most beloved films, so I'd probably fall into depression if Americans tried to butcher it.

I agree with what sidnoglenyes said and for me too all American movies are foreign. And speaking of none English movies I got a lot but one of them is Toki o Kakeru Shōjo it's my favorite and it's Japanese (English: The girl who leapt through time). And for the second question: NO! There shouldn't be any American remakes.

What's Harry going to do now that the series is over?

I got home after the midnight showing and immediately made a vlog about this... Here is the answer:

It will stay with me right until the very end. For me, Harry Potter is forever, even if there is no new movie to look forward to or an upcoming book to pre-order. The words Jo wrote are in ink. They are permanent, both on the page and in my heart.

For those who feel different, well, there is always Pottermore

My favorite foreign film is The Seven Samurai. It was based on Japanese legend. There was an American remake that made little sense: The Magnificent Seven. It was filled with American stars and was nominated for an Academy Award. It wasn't nearly as good.

Basically he is going to restart the entire process of slaying Voldemort again when I have children, because this is what I am going go read to them starting at the age of eight. I'd like to pass down the great memories I have of being introduced to Harry and begging my mother "ooo just one more chapter, please mom I promise I'll go right to sleep after that!"

You made our lives Magical, Harry. :)

Well if you didn't read the books or see the movie (which I have and haven't), that would be spoilers now wouldn't it? The book tells us! Beyond that? Umm get fat on butterbeer then have Hermoine use her magic to make him skinny again... And umm, try to convince his kids he really was a hero while they just see a dufus dad who can't even figure out their modern wands.

Which is your favorite classic Beatles’ song, and why?

How can you have just one favorite song by the Beatles? They have so many songs and all of them are fantastic (this coming from a girl who has every single remastered album). For instance, the elegance that is Something. It starts out as a gentle caress of music, I can almost picture a woman in a silk dress sauntering about a room, lighting candles, picking up dishes... Then the bridge like an outburst of emotion, the strange confusion of romance and excitement for the unknown..

I don't know, I can't really go through the amazing music that is the beatles and pick out a favorite song. There are such good memories with all of them as well. When it was raining, for instance, my mother would always sing me "Here Comes the Sun" to cheer me up about being unable to go out and play.

Speaking of the sun, here it comes over the horizon, so I think I should give my brain and fingers a break and come back to this later.

Writer's Block: Famous last words

If you were close to death, what would you choose for your last words? To whom would you want to say them?

Haha, I can't believe I never answered this before. the last time I remember being near-death (It's kind of odd that I have more than one near-death experience, let alone the fact that I have them regularly) my going-to-be last words were, and I quote:

"Oh fuck!"

I said them to the ground, that was somehow now above me, which just wasn't right, because I wasn't under ground.

(Spoiler alert: I didn't die.)

Goodnight, Fred.

What's Harry going to do now that the series is over?

This is going to sound so absolutely cheesy, but the series will never really be over. Yes, there will be no new publications (whatever goes on at Pottermore aside), and there will be no more films, but it will never be over. Because all of us in the 'Potter Generation', who spent so many years of our lives following Harry and watching him grow, will always keep him with us. These are the sort of books that touch you and stay with you, even as you get old.

The visual representation of something coming to a close, does not mean it's 'over' by any means. I have stuck with Harry to the end, and I will keep sticking with him forever. The impact these books, and subsequently the films, had on my life is enormous. That's not something that's just over and done with.

End cheese-fest.

Для поддержания брутального имиджа, конечно, чкажу, что это "Не грози южному центру...". С высоты прожитых лет этот фильм несомненная какашка, но по силе ощущений - это несомненный айс и пёфект!
