Which is your favorite or least favorite comic book-turned-movie?
Hrm... knowing that Navin reads this, what should my answer be... Okay. I quite liked the first Iron Man
, the second one left something to be desired, but the first was great. Watchmen
is and always will be beautiful, and Jackie Earle Haley was spectacular but ... while the music made up for some of this [Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower," Bob Dylan singing "The Times They Are a-Changin," and Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" got me bang on-side], it lost something in translation between the book and the movie, and those beautiful excepts of Holland Mason's autobiography etcetera really brought balance and wholeness that the movie kinda lacked. It was great, but it wasn't the book, and it isn't my favorite. And of course Christopher Nolan's Batman
series has [thus far] been spectacular - I realize it The Dark Knight
only won Oscar's because of Heath Ledger's untimely demise but still, fantastic and deserving of its awards. The Spirit
is... terrible, but camp, and camp + Eric Balfour go a long way with me. And Sin City
... really an incredible piece of work, I should revisit it. But... still not my favorite. Because while I have most of those on DVD [and the ones I don't are on my Christmas list], and while they're all great movies... they're not 300.
I love 300
. The writing, the acting, the staging - really everything about it is just fantastic. I saw it twice in theaters - kindof a big deal for me since I usually only see one movie per year [if that!] in theaters. And I bought it twice - a regular edition that I bought the night it came out so I could watch it with my then-unofficial-brother-in-law and loan it out as necessary, and the special edition with all of the fancy extras. I growl at stupid Lena Headley fills me with pride. I growl [literally - and I did it in the theaters, which must've been really interesting for the guy sitting next to me] at stupid Dominic West's awful character, and... I just love it. Gives me chills, makes me laugh, makes me profoundly happy to be human... kindof all of those. so 300
Hopefully Navin doesn't hate me too much...
