Well, the song that I must sing and never missed is by Avril Lavigne, 'Nobody's home'. Yeah, it's an old song but love it as I can relate to it. I also do love to sing 'Impossible' by Shontelle. Love karaoke! I missed going karaoke with my family and friends. But I'd usually sing at home instead and use the instrumental songs from Youtube. Great site. But lately I'm loving 'Skyscraper' by Demi Lovato. Nice and meaningful song!
I basically love to sing songs with high notes and such. I've learned music for 10 years, but I became inactive since 2008 till now. How sad right? Music has been around for a long time and even though I've stopped formally learning music, it will always live in my heart. I mean, you heard the sayings right that 'Music is my soul', 'I can't live without music'. Right now my hobby is singing, but I do not wish to enter competitions and such as I would like to keep it as my hobby. I don't want to compete with anyone.
You know, everyone can sing. If you can speak, you can sing. I hate when people complained that this singer can't sing and such. Blah blah blah. BUT, here's the thing, not everyone can sing IN TUNE. Haha. So you know how to sing but you may not sing in tune. And instead of saying this, 'Hey, that [insert name here] can't sing!', you can say this, 'I don't like her/his voice'.
I've heard people say Britney Spears can't sing and I'd be like, 'What? Are they serious?'. She can sing but I guess some people just can't stand her singing and do not like her voice. Simple right? The meaning is already in the sentence. Haha. Sorry for the extra info. Just like to share, that's all.
I like karaoke, I like singing full stop really. I can hold a melody or harmony and stay in tune, though my voice isn't anything special.
I always end up singing Cyndi Lauper songs (because my voice is the right pitch to sing them and I remember them quite well) and Black Velvet by Alannah Myles (because I like it, although some of the low notes are a bit of a stretch).
If I go with the people from work I have to sing Abba, this is not by choice, it's mandatory.
Wen I turned 40 my parents invtied all of my friends over for a formal sit down dinner. Prime rib, etc. My Mom is a fabulous cook. Then they treated us all to go out ballroom dancing at the studio I used to go to. We all went to the big Halloween bash at the end of the month. so I pretty munch celebrated for a whole month.
When I turned 50 my parents offered to send me on a trip to Europe but I declined. My health wasn't good and I just didn't feel like it.
A few years ago I sent away for abalone from an abalone farm up the California Coast. I spent $75 but we each got two meals out of those abalones plus they threw in some shells. They were absolutely delicious. Last year it was scallops. I made soup with a cauliflower, leek, scallop and caviar. Then there were grilled scallops with a sauce and risotto on the side. Then cheesecake for dessert.
Absolutely. After all, if the idea is to punish them every day for the rest of their lives and never let them have another moments' joy, then you might as well just slap the death penalty on every criminal and be done with it. That would be much less taxing on society's supposed 'reform' systems. :)
I'd say It's My Life by Bon Jovi. No matter how overrated and how predictable this song may be, I love it and it's my anthem.
Song of second choice would be Secret Base, a song in Japanese. I just love it, and it's quite easy, the lyrics. Also 壊れていく世界 by ギルガメッシュ.
Единственное, выбираю ту, которую смогу "вытянуть", если уж петь, то чтобы звучало! =)
I'm kinda superstitious. Like if Friday the 13 hits I feel wary of everything. And wait for something bad to happen. I sometimes avoid cracks so I won't break my mothers back. No, special customs but I do like finding Four Leaf Clovers for good luck.
Since dragon ball was originally a manga this counts: DRAGON BALL EVOLUTION SHOULD BE ERASED FROM HISTORY!!! "least favorite" doesn't even begin to describe the negativity I feel towards that abomination >_< SOOOOOOOOO many freaking things wrong with it
1. I can get over goku being a "teenager" (guy that played him def wasnt) but him being in high school is just WRONG
2. His grandfather was alive... it's just too different from the original
3. Chi chi was a total... girl...wtf, like she looked like she was completely decked out in forever21 clothes the whole movie -_-
4. Picolo had a ho ?.?
5. Goku's monkey/ape transformation was pathetic like i don't think he was even half the size of the real one
6. Yamcha looked hella old and sounded like an idiot
7. Bulma had a blue streak of hair....just a streak...
8. Goku only ate once throughout the whole movie and it wasn't even that much
9. Master roshi's house was in some weird fake wannabe "island" in the middle of the city
10. Master Roshi wasn't a pervert... sounds weird to complain about this but that's part of his true character and it's such a big part too
11. WTF WAS WITH THAT KAMEHAMEHA?!?! I understand the sound was going in and out in the theater chibi and I watched it in but that doesn't excuse the weird interpretive dance looking motions that they did instead of the real motions or the fact that it didn't look anywhere as cool as the real one did
12. Imma complain about the high school thing again cuz it's seriously just so wrong >___<' i even hated it when in the actual anime gohan went to high school -_- it completely changed him
*sigh* Anyways, that was total crap
Truthfully, my sister's a better cook than my mom. I prefer baking. Anyway, Jalapeno Chicken Casserole, even though her weak palette uses green chilis rather than jalapenos. It's what I request/make myself when asked. Topped by Fritos and cheese it's fucking delish with loads of spinach, my favorite green veggie.
I have the recipe if Southern Living didn't archive it.
Hard to say. I have a giant party on my birthday every year. I kind of insist on it. (What, you thought that Veruca Salt nickname just materialized out of nowhere?) Last year it a private karaoke room, though, with a dozen or so friends, which was pretty rockin'.
Looking back, it's really hard for me to remember specific birthdays. I mean, I guess if I looked it up in my journal but...
However, I do remember my 30th birthday celebration. My awesome older brother set up a bowling party at, the now closed bulldozed and turned into condos, Sunset Bowl in Seattle. It was such an awesome place- totally classic and fun with good food. He put together a black cat pinata, although we didn't break it open there was just a little flap right under its tail that opened to spill out chocolate. Getting the visual? lol
We ate burgers and fries and bowled and slipped out into the parking lot to drink Shawn's special sparkly Kickapoo Joy Juice. *grins* Later in the evening, we actually spotted Chihuly (he's got long grey hair and an eye patch so pretty unmistakable). All in all, a magically fun evening celebrating the day of my birth. Hooray for hipster older bros.
Nothing too crazy, per se, but the best birthday for me was celebating it last year overseas while at an archaeological field school.
Hard day of satisfying work followed by an evening of drinking and clowning around with fellow students of a different culture!
I have never celebrated my birthday in a very special way, ever. A few years ago my boyfriend got me Ghaladriel's ring, a replica of it from The Lord Of The Rings. I liked it very much.
Otherwise I've never had a special birthday, or a cool one.
my mum was the best chef ever!!! every of my mum's cooking always makes me salivate even just at the thought if it... once we went to the 5stars hotel, have dinner and what do you know, when my mum cook the same menu, it even taste better!!! =D
The coolest way I celebrated my birthday would have to be when friends threw me a surprise party four years ago. The excuse to get me to come down to our lounge in the dorm at UIS was a meeting was coming up for our floor and it was mandatory to attend.
A couple of years ago I got really fed up with my birthday. Almost every year something happens on my birthday. Something to throw my day off. And a few years ago I had a particularly bad birthday. I was kind of upset with my family because it was like they threw it together on the fly with no regard to what I would want. Etc. So I decided the next year to not celebrate it. I was going to go out of down for the weekend and just not be around anyone. I told my grandmother to not call me if something bad happened. And nothing did. I had a great time being away from the "real world" and hung out at the beach. I got a nice room overlooking the beach. It was so relaxing. I loved it.
When I was 17, we were living in Dominica (The Nature Island of the Caribbean!) and the students at the medical school there threw a surprise party for me, with a cake and Heineken beer (the water wasn't safe to drink). We lived on the beach and had music and dancing and a GREAT time!
I once studied French, 2 years in high school to fulfill my college requirements. Hated every f#@%king minute of it. I later found out that Computer Scientist, must have college level foreign language classes (and that consequently, I wasted credits of electives in high school). I didn't find out about the college level requirement till 4 semesters before graduating. So I took the first available (wanted German, Latin, Russion, or an Oriental language, but they weren't available at times that would accommodate my work schedule), so Spanish it was. Hated every f#@%king minute of it, too.
For years, I swore that I'd fight foreign language requirements to the death. This is America, we speak American English. Learn it or GTFO!
I still refuse to do business with anyone in this country that doesn't speak the language (or have translators to handle their business transactions).
As time passes, I still believe that if you wish to conduct business in America, learn English. However, my anti-foreign language beliefs have died down. I actually have a desire to learn both Mandarin and Cantonese. Largely due to my desire to visit China. I would like to be able to converse in the native language before going to China. However, I know that it takes a while for old-farts to learn new languages (especially stubborn old-farts). So I imagine that my first trip to China will involve a tour group.
"Himself" [Spousal Unit 1, ver 3.0] took me and a friend to a weekend machine gun shoot. So long as the weapon owner's felt you were safe with that particular weapon, all you had to do was come up with the ammo. And there were ammo dealers on site.
Got to play with everything from an FN P90 [which was a new weapon for me] up to a Browning 50 cal machine gun and pretty much everything in between.
My hubby loved me! :>}
And yes - he *did* grow up in Montana...
The way that I celebrated my 20th birthday had to have been the best. I threw a big party in the trailer that I was living in at the time. I bought a lot of alcohol, like SoCo, tequila, vodka, ancient age, seagram's seven. I invited a LOT of people-even people I didn't know. I hardly remember the night. I remember taking the midnight run with my sister, Iason, David and Kendall. I remember puking my guts out. I even remember pretending to be gay for Kendall so some guys wouldn't hit on her. I remember smoking so much weed that by the end of the night I couldn't even pack a bong. I remember Tits, some girl who seemed to believe her boobs were too great to be caged by bras and t-shirts. I remember Angie's drunk ass. I remember David picking up one of the new guys and throwing him outside.
It was the best night of my life. Or one of them. I also remember waking up the next morning and realizing that forty bucks was stolen.
It was and wasn't worth it.
I was in Cuzco, Peru at the time, partway through a vacation involving the Galapagos, Ecuador, and Peru. At lunch we made ourselves Pisco Sours (the national drink) and afterwards they brought out a piece of cake for me :)
The first song that comes to mind is Jennifer Hudson's rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls. That song gives me goosebumps eveytime I listen to it. Her voice is so powerful and emotional. It makes me wish I could sing like that. Hell, I wish I could sing at all. My singing voice is so out of tune. Sometimes I consider taking singing lessons, but I think it would probably be wasted on me.
Birthday celebrations....I'm sort of a bit jaded about them.
When I was a baby my parents had a joint party for me and my dad's cousin's daughter Kimmie. And then we started having joint parties for me and my brother (he's two years younger, our b-days are a month a part). When I turned 8 I had my first by myself party, a sleepover. Only one of my friends came because there was some kind of special thing going on at the school that night... After that I stopped having birthday parties for a long time. (although my brother always had them and this has always been a source of bitterness for me...)
In high school I wanted to have a party but my brother and I both wanted a Halloween party too. So then because my birthday is a week before Halloween my parents said we could only have one party I decided to give up my b-day party and have a joint Halloween party with my friends and my bro's friends. (somehow my bro still got his b-day party in sept. though...) So we did that for a few years.
And then nothing. I hated b-day parties. I still kinda hate b-day parties or celebrating my b-day in any way. I guess cuz I'm still pissed.
The last few years I've had a Halloween party around my b-day and that's been the most fun. Because the Halloween (it *is* my all time fave holiday) party is my birthday present. So...yeah.
I've had a lot of great birthdays, but I'm not sure that most of them have been _cool_ in any objective sense...
When I was a kid, I thought it was the height of cool that my brother and I had a birthday party on the day between our birthdays (his is July 5th, and mine is July 7th), and that we'd get each get to do something special on our actual birthday. On my birthday, I'd usually choose to go to the South County Heritage Festival and have lobster, steamers and corn-on-the-cob for dinner (still my favorite).
I went on a whale watch for my birthday once, which was pretty awesome. It is not the best time of the year for whale watching, but we were lucky! We attracted a local pod that rode with us for a while, and one of the whales even waved goodbye to us when they left!
I think my _coolest_ birthday was probably when Simon ([Bad username: fringe_dweller"]), who was my boyfriend at the time, flew to Germany (from Australia) to celebrate my birthday with me. I was running a training class in Munich, Germany that week, and I was sad about being away from home on my birthday. So, Simon flew in, and we spent the weekend together, seeing the sites in/around Munich.
The birthdays that I've liked the best, though, are the ones that I have spent at home with my family and friends.
My 40th birthday was very cool! Carolyn and Kevin threw me a big, tropical-themed party.
...I was also really happy with this year's party. The weather was beautiful, I was organized enough about the food that I got to spend most of the party in the pool, I got _three_ amazing cakes, and I had a bit too much rum punch to drink... I'm not sure it gets much better than that! :-)
Well when I am on a cruise ship without my partner in crime Matty, I always sing "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred as that's our cruise song and so I sing it in Matty's honour.
When I went to Vegas, I got up in front of a room of Arican Americans and rapped to "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio. I got such huge praise, a standing ovation and massive applause and all the men were giving me high fives afterwards saying "I'll give you that!" hehe that was pretty cool considering I was worried I may have offended them all.
But another song I always like to sing at karaoke is "Hole In The Head" by the Sugababes. It's just an easy song to sing in terms of pitch and range.
My friend and I do a 'Birthday Challenge". We took a leaf from my mom and her best friend's book (of life experiences). They used to do a challenge every year before my mom needed to have her knees replaced. Such as long hikes from point A to point B. Or long bike rides, or climbing a local mountain.
So we started to do the same. Some years we plan a challenge for each of our birthdays. And some years our challenge turns into a multi-day challenge so we choose and plan for that one challenge.
Our last two challenges were to hike the Tully Trail , a 22 mile trail in the North Quabbin region of Massachusetts. We had torrential rains the first afternoon. Returned to the ranger station late the next to check back in and found out we had been hiking through tornado winds and warnings! That was a 3 day challenge. And last year's challenge was to hike as much of Rhode Island's North-South Trail as we could. That challenge took us most of the week and we made it to the mid-way point in very unseasonable (for us) hot temperatures.
This year we are going to do a section of the Appalachian Trail. Starting at the Connecticut border and heading north through Massachusetts. We will choose a place to 'end' the challenge as we approach the sixth day of our challenge.
I've done some pretty cool things for my birthday. I've gone whitewater rafting on class 5 rapids in northern Maine. I've taken weekend trips to Toronto and Montreal, Canada as well as a weekend in South Beach (Miami, FL.) This year, I flew out to LA for the week and spent my birthday at the San Diego zoo.
As exciting as all of this sounds, I don't like other people making a "big deal" about my birthday. I want people to remember it, but I don't want others to inconvenience themselves on my behalf. Yeah, I'm weird like that.
The year I turned 21, my Mom and I were over in England doing geneaology research. The day before, we'd turned up some exciting information and because the archives would be closed the day after, we spent my actual birthday digging through birth, baptismal, and death records from the 1700's. However, the day AFTER my birthday we went to Cornwall -- toured the Tintagel ruins, had a tasty ploughman's lunch of bread, cheese & cider, bought souvenirs, visited Clovelly (steepest cobblestone streets in Great Britain), gorged ourselved on a berry-clotted-cream tea... BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!
On my last birthday I smoked pot with my friends for the first time, I know that sounds stupid, but I had the best time with them. We just hung around, played N4, watched the fireworks (my birthday is New Year's Eve) and then some drama unfolded with Justin when he kissed me at midnight and yada yada. I was too high to care at the moment, it wasn't the best choice for either of us though. Luckily we're still friends and such so it's all good.
