Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?

Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

I did something I wouldn't recommend to just anyone. I was pretty well the underdog until I hit around the end of grade 8. There was this particular girl who considered herself quite tough, and had a few groupies who hung with her. She took huge pleasure in bothering as many girls as possible and was considered quite a scrapper - someone to avoid. While I'd had a few run-ins with other bullies in the school, she hadnt been one of them up til the day she started harrassing me each time she saw me stating she 'heard' I wanted to beat her up. I'd heard about her, and knew she was gearing up to make me one of her new marks.

After about a week of trying to avoid her harrassment, and just getting tired of being harassed by people in general - I called her on her bluff.

I stood in her face, giving her a 'I believe what I am saying' clear mean stare, and told her that NO.. I did not want to fight her, but.... if she didn't get off my case and stop harassing me.. (I believe I took a piece of the front of her shirt pulling her nice and close so I knew she could read my lips)  that I was not only going to fight her but I was going to 'beat her fucking brains in' and then there would be no doubt as to what I wanted of her... I then let her go and calmy walked away.

Well she must of believed and probably never had anyone confront her like that in front of HER piers - because she stopped harassing me, and not a week later, a not so lucky girl (not me) got her nose broke by that same girl in the back school field. (someone else who had been threatening to fight me before that - imagine that...)  From that point on - I heard that I ... was tough, and shouldnt be messed with.  That was a rumour I could handle people believing.

That face-off didnt solve ALL the harassment from my piers, but for the most part, I found myself treated with a lot more respect than before that little confrontation.

To this date, it amuses me that it wasn't might of fist that won that battle, but rather might of mind....

I have never forgot that lesson, or the confidence I learned in just the power of my words,  and it has taught me to always evaluate a situation & appreciate the value of setting vivid expectations, and laying a good mindfuck whenever possible to disuade the bad guys. (appologise for the language for those offended, but that is the actual phrase)

Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

The first step in dealing with a bully is to understand the bully themselves.
Here are some rather common, and almost always accurate, observations made on why bullies do what they do:
a) Spoilt rotten by their parents, but despite getting valuable material possessions, do not receive the love they crave from their parents (or in the case of divorce, parent). In some cases they aren't even spoilt, but neglected by their parents all together, or abused.
b) Were bullied themselves, leading them to take on a defense mechanism which mimics the way they were treated.
c) Were not brought up in a particularly loving manner.
d) Are socially handicapped, and therefore do not understand how to deal with people.
Now, how to deal with them.
In my class, there is a boy who has picked on me and others ruthlessly for 4 years, believing himself to be superior to others and degrading them with the most horrible, racist and sexist comments, the classical verbal bully. Despite his rather nasty demeanor, he earns a few laughs around the class because he makes fun of our teachers in another language, arabic, which is also my native, but not first, language, and let me tell you that just like the English language, we also have some rather obscene words that people would rather not hear.
Anyways, every time my classmates laughed at his behavior, they were igniting a fire, and over the years I've watched him grow into a nuisance, making very racist comments and boasting his superiority to others because his family is well known and respected, these bullies however have an easy solution: no matter how annoying they are, no matter how offensive, ignore them, because all they want is for you to react, whether you laugh, cry or shout, whatever, it fuels their ridiculous need for attention.
Now then, a more frightening type of bully is the one who bullies people physically, these bullies need to be reported immediately, and the parents of the victim and the bully must be brought in and have a meeting with the principal, I'm dead serious now. These bullies cause enough trouble as it is, if a teacher simply scolds them, they will turn more violent, trust me, I can't give any more advice on that because honestly, I've never been physically bullied, but if you are being bullied in such a manner, please seek help immediately, I hope I helped.

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

I was certainly bullied but I don't think I can put myself through the emotional distress I go through whenever I think back to it. So I'll just leave it at that. And how did I get through it? I didn't. I got by. I suffered. I cried a lot. I wasn't happy. I'm still not happy. This isn't something that you can't get out of your head or out of your system after being kicked down time and time again and made to be felt like you're not worth anything. I escaped last year and just... it was the best fucking thing to ever happen to me. I'm surrounded by friends, by people who love me, who don't look at me like I'm not worth anyone's time. I don't get those looks any more, I don't get snide remarks, I don't get kicked in the corridors or get things thrown in my face while sitting in class. I don't get groups of girls surrounding me in a circle and reducing me to tears. I don't get called names. I don't get treated like dirt. I get hugs and not insults. I get love and not hate. And it's the best fucking feeling in the whole damn world.

Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?

Yes, as the official skinny shy nerd kid I was bullied all through school. I "dealt" with it by becoming introverted: Withdrawing into myself, hiding my emotions, trying to become invisible. A few times later, toward the end of high school, I lost it and snapped back, and was surprised to find bullies generally back down when confronted ... but I never fully got over problems of self-esteem, and to this day avoid confrontation when possible.

Also to this day -- as you might imagine -- I react badly to being told what to do.

I was bullied a lot as a child. I got through it by sticking up for myself, but unfortunately, that just seemed to make them do it more which then pushed me to get into fights. I was labeled as an angry child because I kept getting into fights in school cause of said bullies.

It would have to be touch. Sight is too important to me, same with sound. I read and listen to music more then I do anything else. Taste and smell are important to me too cause I'm such a food person. I love to cook and I love to eat.

Writer's Block: It’s Women’s Equality Day!

Do you think women are treated as equals? What changes would you like to see?

I really don't think so. Though the times have changed since 50 years ago, women still get treated differently then men, and not all in good ways. There still are lots of men that treat women like pretty accessories to have hanging off their arms or in their beds. It sickenings me to see something like that.

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

I think everyone have been bullied at least once in their childhood, and if you haven't well kudos to you.  From kindergarten to middle school, I have been bullied.  I learned through my experiences and sometimes ignoring them just doesn't work, at least with me it didn't.  It's seem it was power in numbers or something, because when one start all the others join in.  Elementary was bearable because I had friends and I had many activities to do to keep my mind busy.  Middle school was pretty much torture.  I had family problems, social problems, and school problems all rolled into one.  I felt so alone in that school, that I started skipping school and pretty much hiding away from the reality of the situation.  That's obviously not the way to deal with problems, but I was willing to do anything to get away in that point in my life.

What is your favorite candy or dessert?

Way too many.

I like a lot of pies. My own cherry, apple, cream cheese, creamy peach, key lime, lemon meringue, chocolate cinnamon satin.

I like a lot of my own cookies. Butterzueg, mint chocolate chip, lime, pecan puffs, peanut butter.

I like home made angel food cake.

I really like Marie Callendar's blueberry sour cream pie. That is a pie my Mother never made and so we don't have a good family recipe for it.

Writer's Block: Scary movie

What is the scariest horror flick you’ve seen?

I've been watching (and laughing) at horror movies since I was 5 years old. That's 20 years ago now. So it takes a lot to scare me. There's only one thing that I can think of now that really creeps me out. Anything to do with eyes would be the #1 thing. I get very BLAH when something happens to people's eyes.

Writer's Block: A literary masterpiece

Which books will you certainly read to your children, nieces, nephews or godchildren?

Anything by Dr. Seuss. I loved the old Dr. Seuss books. Green Eggs & Ham, Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, and especially How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch is my all time favorite Christmas movie, both the cartoon and the live action.

Also, the old classics, like Aladdin and the Little Mermaid. I loved those stories when I was a kid, and they weren't the Disney versions, though I did love the movies as well.

I also loved the Berenstain Bears series and The Adventures Of The Bailey School Kids series. The Bailey School Kids gave me the imagination I have today and for that, I will always love them <3 :)

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?

I don't really have writers block, but I'm in a shitty mood so why the hell not talk about being bullied as a child? Also this is going to be my public entry in quite some time. I can only assume I'm NOT interesting enough to stalk for more than one or two years, if that. I guess we'll find out, won't we?

Well anyway. I didn't really have friends in elementary school. I had one, sort of, and she moved away. I had acquaintances that were also social outcasts. I guess they might have looked like friends if you squinted, I mean, I don't wish horrible things on them anymore, at any rate. We did not equal that quirky but supportive friend group that people overly fond of cartoons tend to associate with ragtag groups of freaks. I think what we mostly had in common is that all the other kids' parents didn't like that our parents either didn't have money/were divorced/ran a daycare out of their home. Whatever the reason, they didn't actually pick on me any less than everyone else in the long run.

I tried so hard to be liked and accepted (er, sort of, back to that one later). I have a very vivid memory of one day in the lunch room. A lot of kids were gone for some reason and it was just me and one girl I had never gotten to know all that well. We had an awesome conversation (I think it was about Garfield) and at the end I said enthusiastically, "We should totally be friends!" while I rode the high of having had an actually successful conversation with somebody my age. At this point I was seeing the counselor because I was doing things like bursting into tears in the middle of class, bursting into tears at home, and writing creepy stories about how I hoped I would break a leg or something because then people would be required to be nice to me for a while.

Well, anyway, the girl hesitated, obviously worried about something. She answered kind of slowly, like she was suddenly talking to somebody exceptionally thick. She told me that she couldn't be my friend because then none of the other girls would want to be her friend. She was very apologetic about it, like it was one of those unfair things that you just have to do, like taxes or going to the dentist. I deflated somewhat, but optimistically hoped that she would change her mind. She never did.

I did everything that it occurred to me to do to be liked. I tried to listen to the same music everyone else liked, I tried to dress like them, I tried to be nice to everybody all of the time. None of it worked, of course. It never really occurred to me that people wouldn't like me because of what their parents said about my parents or because I didn't believe in God. I just didn't even realize these things could be related.

Things mostly just got worse. I owe it to some absolutely phenomenal teachers that my days weren't entirely miserable all of the time. I only just recently found out my 6th grade teacher was bringing me books he loved from his own home for me to read because everything we had at the school was way below my level. This totally explains how I got my hands on Phantom of the Opera at such a young age.

The funny thing is, I just kept on trucking, trying desperately to please people in all the wrong ways. Things changed when I went to middle school and met other people. I pretty much threw myself at anybody even halfway friendly towards me and eventually a few people stuck around. Those few precious friendships changed everything about me. I eventually caught onto the joys of shock value and started doing strange things because it was funny and people didn't get the joke. It still didn't occur to me that this might make people dislike me.

We traipsed through the rest of middle school and high school carelessly, having our own fun and ignoring anyone who judged us harshly. What the hell did we care what they thought when we had each other and our own fun? Well, that was the group mentality anyway. On my own I STILL tried to get everybody to like me, but when it didn't always happen I had good friends to go to that cared about me and mattered more. I don't think that 'trying to please everyone' thing will ever really drop out of my personality. I still do it wrong, and I still do weird shit because its funny and nobody gets the joke...

Somehow, somewhere along the way I became someone to look up to. I seriously don't know how or why, because it just happened. I noticed something was up about my second year of college, I kept running into people I didn't recognize at all who were all a year or two younger than me and remembered me vividly from high school. They all wanted to know how I was doing and told me what they were doing and I left every single one of those encounters wondering who the fuck that was and why they cared about me at all.

I don't even know how to conclude this. I tried not to exaggerate too much but it is all one massive over simplification. I didn't even get to cover "recognizing shitty friends" and "growing socialization skills through trial and error". I think the moral is, I was never 'just myself' like all the poster ads seem to think you should be. I'm still not, shit, I get PAID to be nice to assholes now, and I should probably be grateful for all those years of practice sucking up. I'm not, really. There are so many better things for me to be grateful for.

I guess it just is what it is, in the end. Normally I try not to dwell.

Writer's Block: Everybody hurts

A bully is a stupid person who never have some intelligence or love in their life I live in venezuela (sorry about the writing I'm not very good xD).

In the case where a bully starts to piss someone off everyone have to go for their nuts hit them like there's no tomorrow and then enjoy your pain but never back down, for me the bully guy is like a big dog, don't show them fear and fight, the first time it's gonna be a CRAZY shit and he will hit you with the fury of a bull, but never NEVER show fear they eat that stuff every day, show you winner and fearless do this every time that he bother you sooner or later he will stop the crap and you will win some respect.

Bullying of the more subtle type in elementary school/junior high.

I was teased, had a crankcall pulled on me that in retrospect I might be able to call sexual harrassment, called a racial slur once, had my pigtails pulled, got caught in the middle of a popularity war because I was the 'former friend of the popular girl'/'current friend of the misfit'.

Writer's Block: Once upon a time…

What is the first line of your favorite book?

About three things I was absolutely positive: First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Haha, no, just kidding.

My favorite book series is actually The Ghatti's Tale by Gayle Greeno, and the first sentence of the first book is as follows (and yes, I had to look this up, obviously it's a bit unwieldy to have memorized or anything):

The silver medallion with its eight faintly curved sides swayed from the chain around Vesey's neck, swung closer and closer to the baby's face as the boy leaned over Briony's cradle, his long, quick-bitten fingers trapping each side, halting the cradle's rocking.

The funny thing is that I still maintain that this is my favorite series, and it was hugely influential on my characterization-driven writing style, but ... well ... this particular line looks a bit different now that I've actually (almost, still editing) written a novel of my own. If this were my own first sentence, there is so much I would do to change it. It's kind of a mess as-is, especially for the importance of the first sentence.

But I swear it's still a good series.

Yes I was bullied when I was both in Elementary and High School. And to think both my bullies were very thin boys!!!
I told my Mom about the boy who bullied me when I was in grade school and she talked to the boy.
I stood up for myself with the bully in High School. I got fed up with his bullying me so I swiped his attache case
(yes that's what he used in school) from his desk, it flew out of our classrooms doorway shocking him and our other classmates.
from then on he never bothered me again.

I'd say I did well for myself that day. *chuckling*

slandering and just talking shit and I really hate this. But if I couldn't hear I couldn't listen to music also and that's the only thing that brings me down when I'm getting aggressive~

But then again I'd be concentrated on seeing and I'm getting easily aggressive if I see how people make despising faces. That would just kill me.. not really though... so it wouldn't be good.. it just would tear me inside.. but not really kill me~ that'd be hard~

Well so I guess smell is the only thing I could abandon although I'd like to not taste since most things don't taste good to me. But if I couldn't taste I'd even eat spoiled food and would get tummy cramps and this hurts a lot.. already had many of them~

So my final answer is smell..I guess~

The nicest thing anyone's ever said to me was . . .

Well, actually, I have two.

One was from third grade and one was from eighth grade.

In third grade we had this assignment where we had to draw a colorful dream of ours.  I, being obsessed with all things Sailor Moon (an anime show about some chick who saves the world using powers of the moon with her friends, who used the powers of different planets), had come across the Moon Senshi, a canon group of girls similar to the Sailor Scouts (Sailor Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) but were based around the planets' moons.  So one of the moons that were picked to be apart of the Moon Senshi was Sailor Miranda, which happened to be my name.  So I pretty much admired her for the rest of third grade.  She was a bit of a tomboy, but I considered her to be rather beautiful.

So, I drew a picture of Sailor Miranda attacking in mid-air and when asked to interpret it, I told the class I wanted to be as pretty, tough, and powerful as her, although I emphasized the pretty part.

Now, the boy I just so happened to like at the time, whom I will refer to as the Sagittarius, was the only who

What is your favorite candy or dessert?

depends on the day! Flan, Dulche de Leche, Chocolate mousse, Creampuffs, Napoleon...Strawberry shortcake, Almond cookies, particular but varied ice creams, Lemon cake or lemon cake/mousse combinations... things that are creamy, fruity or chocolaty (or both) I'm not fond of whipped cream icings (but I like whipped cream, especially freshly whipped), anything with pecans (though I like plain pecans) in, things with shredded coconut (but again, fresh chunk coconut is good) that nasty tubed decorating icing they sell at most grocery stores..

Lets see hmm...I have to say I really can go for some Sea Salt Ice Cream again ^__^
The last time I had some was when I cosplayed Mario for this Anime Picnic. I really wish they market Sea Salt Ice Cream in the United States I can Picture it now on a Haggin Daz Container I guess I'll post a picture. I actually see Sea Salt ice Cream in Baskin Robbins or Cold Stones. I know how they can market it to people without them Ewwing it. Axel's Bright Idea calling it "The Icing on the Cake" :) Anyways I must go beddy buy Laterz

If I choose one favorite sweet I would have to be Peanut M and M's.  There are a lot of great candies to choose from, but I will always go back to the standad that I have always loved.  All the fancy candies in the world can't pull me away from my colorful friends!  Oh, and then there is cheesecake.  White Raspberry Cheesecake is my favorite dessert, from just about anywhere, but there is a restaurant called Sal's in North Carolina that has the best.  I try not to go there too often, because it can be addiciting!!

What is your favorite candy or dessert?
My favorite candies are Junior Mints or Nestle Crunch bars. The Wonka Scrumdiddlyumptious bars were good too.
Once Baskin-Robbins had a pink bubblegum ice cream cake. I didn't buy it because everyone else thought it was gross and it was too big and too expensive for one person to eat.

What is your favorite candy or dessert?

I don't know. I tend not to have favorites. I usually don't eat a dessert, although I often did as a child. Keeping mind I rarely have these things now, here're some things I like: Ice cream, peanut butter cups, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies.
There's got to be more, but I don't want to make a longer list now. Except, I will mention I like the name 'Milky Way' for a candy bar, even though I understand the name was based on a milkshake rather than the galaxy. I like thinking of it as referring to a galaxy, regardless. Kind of like the Mars bars are named after someone and not the planet. If I saw either one in a store, it is doubtful I would bother buying one, but I'd eat one if given one. I guess this means I like them okay, but am somewhat indifferent about having them. And I like Butterfingers bars, but I wouldn't want to eat them often, so same response from me about purchasing.

Favorite ice cream flavor: I don't know. Vanilla? French Vanilla? Sweet cream?

Writer's Block: The state of perception

Sight sound touch smell and taste five are related to human senses, naturally human can not give up theses five senses due to be essential and necessary parts for a person, however I  will like to give up taste ,because taste envokes a person towards a greed of more getting best taste. This is my opinion it may be opposite of other human's opinion. To be patient on a normal thing is appreciation of giving up taste.

Writer's Block: A literary masterpiece

Harry Potter (over and over and over - I don't even care if they hate it). Narnia. The Hobbit. Dr Seuss. Famous Five, if I'm feeling particularly nostalgic.

Or, I could break out youtube and get Noni Hazlehurst (Play School presenter of my childhood) to read this to my tiddlywinks.

Which books will you certainly read to your children, nieces, nephews or godchildren?

There's also a Samuel L Jackson lurking around, for anyone that doesn't know Noni.

(and the cranky status is because the little dog decided something horrible was going on and that she MUST BE PRESSED RIGHT UP AGAINST MAMA lest she disappear. which made mama overheated all night long. the horrible thing was daddy leaving for the airport this am...so none of us slept really good.)

Ohh.. I don’t know… Maybe a big box of deep dark chocolates with nuts.

But, in my family you have to be careful with boxes of chocolates. People here take a bite out of the bottom to see if it’s any good, then they put it back if it’s one of those loser pieces.

Edy's mint chocolate chip ice cream. I've tried other varieties and, while good, don't taste quite as good to me.

Also éclairs. Éclairs win.

Funniest one to me had to be Death by Chocolate ice cream, only because my daughter was scared to eat it when she was a very young goat. "Death" by chocolate, you know.

. Then when dessert came around never cared for the stuff, all that sugar never does anything for me.

I am amazed how kids get so excited when sugary treats role around from the corner of the kitchen. Their faces shine with sparkle of hope, the hope to eat something that will make them....fat! I don't get it, I don't understand this need for sugar well I should correct myself, I don't understand this need for unnatural obbundance of sugar in a finger sized treat. Don't get me wrong sugar isn't ll that bad for you but there are other more healthy ways to get the right amount of sugar in your system. There is sugar.......but it is in this type of food that I like to called.......fruit......OMG! Now that is what I like to call your "natural dose of sugar,"  the healthy stuff you know, the stuff that no one wants to eat anymore.

Why are people so against eating a little more healthy? Is it really that hard to do? Apparently so then there wouldn't be this unhealthy epidemic happening and unfortunatly there are no sighns of it changing any time soon.

Have you or a friend ever been bullied? How did you get through it?
Not so much bullied as pushed around, being put down, constantly degraded. I was teased my my friends a lot in primary school too; I always felt terrible when they did and I let them because of my shyer personality then and didn't know whether I should have stopped them or not.

What is your favorite candy or dessert?
OOOooo, lots of favorites, mostly with chocolate!! Chocolate covered cherries would be near the top of the list. Ice cream, too. (Forbidden Chocolate from Friendly's is awesome!), chocolate sundaes, chocolate chip cookies, the chocolate chip, chocolate coated 'dippers' from Trader Joe's and their chocolate covered raspberry sticks. Brownies, especially with choc. chips. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. And just for a change, strawberry shortcake!! And cheesecake! Let's face it, there's hardly a dessert I DON'T like!!

Do you think women are treated as equals? What changes would you like to see?
