I can make posts a hella lot longer than a facebook update and if I fall horribly behind, it's easier for me to catch-up. People on my friend's list (and myself) are less likely to do the, let's post a random video, posts, and instead have posts with more substance.
I can't really see world peace coming in my lifetime, or even the lifetime of my children or their children. For the world to experience peace, we, as humans, either need to experience something uncontrollable and horrific that effects us all and makes us unite, or we need to be GONE. Peace won't come without a GREAT loss. It's always darkest just before dawn.
I feel great changes will come in my lifetime. But, I don't know how lasting those changes will be. I mean, in ancient Greece (before Christianity came and fucked everything up) it was common and perfectly acceptable to be gay and to be a sexually free man or woman. Despite the misogynist way of the Greeks at that tie, they were incredibly forward-thinking/progressive! Today, most Greeks are Catholic and it's this horrible thing to be gay and Greek.
It's just, we're so small and insignificant, any change or progress we make can be washed away with a simple change in power or a war, or a tsunami that wipes out a civilization. We're NOTHING. I mean, really. We are ANTS- NO, we're less than ants, we're DIRT. We're the subatomic particles that make up the dirt. We're...NOTHING. We're so fragile and so is the world we build our lives around. The idea that the human race could ever be capable of long-lasting world peace is a NICE idea, but it's kind of bullshit.
It is a part of being human: take things apart.
We are have this death wish,
either for ourselves,
or for others.
Much of the time, it is the latter.
But when all hope is gone, when we are forced to the end of the road,
we have a way of fighting back;
even if it means tearing down the things that is forcing you.
Anyway, who is John Lennon?
I heard of him,
but never really knew him.
Maybe it is time to do so.
Peace is relative. Looking back this may actually be one of the most peaceful times in history. None of the worlds powers are fighting with each other certainly there are some conflicts going on, but i strain my mind to think of a time when there were not. Even the pax romana was only peace in rome. I am sure there were on recorded battles being wage in europe and africa amongst the non romans. If you define peace as a time where no man is trying to kill another man I just dont see it. If you think of peace as a time with few major conflicts in the world I think that has happened in my lifetime.
So no, world peace will never exist. And who knows? Perhaps, despite the horrors of war, peace wouldn't be any better for everyone. But that's just my opinion.
Honestly speaking, no - despite the absolute beauty in that utopia, it cannot become reality. Our ‘humanity’ is too weak.
Even if humans constantly try to fool and convince themselves otherwise, we are unable to suppress the ancient urge of survival. No better than animals, we are chained by nature like other beasts, be it a huge lion or small ant, we not only fight other species but also our own, in order to secure the future of our bloodline and genes. We feel the instincts of wanting to spread out, becoming more powerful, always seeking better opportunities. We are greedy, cruel and do not hold back.
However, that does not mean we should not dream; we have to try reaching that utopia, no matter how faint and far away it may seem, in order to maintain the right balance. After all, and once again, we are no different from animals, slaves of nature.
The only political system I know of that achieved virtually complete peace over a significant swath of land over a significant amount of land was the Gaelic system known as Tanistry. This system never rotted within but eventually succumbed to Nordic and British invasion. The Gaels did however engage in regular ritualistic combat similar to indigenous American tribes.
Anyway, the short answer is actually yes, once the costs for dissenting factions becoming starfaring civilizations of their own are no longer prohibitive. There's ample real estate around any given star for a thriving civilization to take hold. Or, we could imagine "World Ships" that travel near light-speed. So long as they head away from Earth and constantly accelerate, no dominating empire should ever manage to catch up. So long as these ships cannot be intercepted, it becomes possible to live without engaging in wars with outsiders.
The only remaining issue becomes the internal politics of your World Ship. It will surely help if there was a consensus about the terms all agreed with before boarding. If your founding principles are unanimously agreed to, then there ought to be little conflict within the first generation.
That's as far as I wish to entertain the question at this time.
there can be worl peace because people cause far too many conflicts between eachother. I think that there is only world peace where humans are gone. Then, there will be no concept of peace, war, or anything like that.
The death of a man as peaceful as John Lennon is evidence that peace will never exist, never be given the time of day. As long as diversity in opinions and culture continue, war will exist. People are always willing to kill/die to protect their ideologies. Peace would only exist in a world of complete homogeny in thought, culture, race, religion, and government. It is sad to say, but it may never happen.
Cultures are understandably a bit more complex, but it shouldn't be that difficult to uncover and understand their core premises, things like ideals and founding myths.
I realize most were actually using the prompt to vent, rather than actually express genuine bewilderment.
If you want a genuine answer from me, a great many things are incomprehensible to me by virtue of my inability to concentrate. Advanced mathematics always escaped my ability to focus. I also couldn't focus on scripts outside the Latin alphabet well enough to learn to read non-Romance languages. I also find working with my hands in many ways difficult to the point of being incomprehensible. I realize I must sound close to worthless, but it isn't self-pity. I am content that I can do a number of things that prove my worth.
that is all.
The lost city of Atlantas.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
And if I still have time, Australia.
I know I was suppose to pick one, but how can i pick just one out of list like that?
"Down under", especially since I now have an LJ friend there.
The Grand Canyon, even though I'm afraid of heights and falling; I'd just attach myself to something so I couldn't fall.
NYC, but I'd want a companion because of crowds and getting disoriented with directions. MOMA. Central Park. Ground Zero.
Japan, Tokyo: the most destroyed city in scifi/horror by giant mutated whatevers.
UK...ALL of it.
The countries of North Africa.
Nebraska...corn fields. LOTS of corn fields.
World Peace is something we all strive for, everyone would like to think of the ideal and hope that the world will one day be at peace with itself. But as cynical and negative as this sounds, sadly because the majority of people on this planet that we call home, have become self obsessed and consumed, individuals arent open to talk to each other, understand each other, care for each other as some of us would hope.
It is a sad thought that the world will forever go on fighting with itself, its people fighting with themselves, over the most menial of things. But then again we all live our lifes fighting with ourselves. Many people have said things to me over my 20 years about the earth and the idea of it being in peace with itself, and one phrase rings strong in my mind as I write this. It is something my Mum has always said to me, and although neither of us are particularly religious, its meaning is understandable by all.
"If heaven is a place where everything is ideal, peaceful, calm and tranquil, where individuals understand, care and love one another, then there has to exist a hell which is the complete opposite. We are all living in hell, on earth."
Now I know to some it will mean nothing, but think about that phrase, and actually it rings true. The earth really is the opposite of a eutopia. It is a place where dreams are made and broken, hearts are made and broken, people are born and die, lives get built and are destroyed. ]
So will there ever be world peace? Sadly it is something that is incredibly unlikely because of the selfish nature that us as humans have inhabited and adopted into our everyday personalities.
Or, as we said:
In Fourteen hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue,
and the Moors were driven out of Granada.
Dang, that was an interesting year, for a lot more reasons than Columbus.
But, on topic, as Bilbo puts it "for still there are so many things that I have never seen/In every wood, in every spring there is a different green"; there are too many places, foreign and domestic that I want to see for the first time, places I've been I want to see new sides of, or places I've been I want to share with different people and see through their eyes. So, in the face of all those places I'd love to see and still hold on hope to do so, I'll say the one that I will never: outer space. Not as far as the moon, but to be in a stable orbit, and look down at the earth, and out at the vast expanse "where no man has gone before".
Love is something that happens. Like a plant imo; You can choose to place yourself in a situation conducive to its growth, nurture it and it will grow. Similarly, you can leave it out in the cold and let it wither. By that standard I would have to say it can also be a choice.
A bit of both then?
I began to sing BEATLES in 1963,the first song i learned from them was Close your eyes and i'll kiss you...
Thjen i sang many popular songs HERE comes the sun,Nowhere man,Let it be,Lady madonna, Back IN th USSR,OH MY lord ,Days tripper,I wanna hold ur hand etc.,Then they split, to say truth,I liked more harmonies by Harrison,.But Paul is not bad in beat style,Now i write music in digital syle in comp,i don't like pop very much,I also act as world's moderator in Global peace process, and be calm I know where a war can be and where must not.
But Jobs KNEW talent.... here's an example. Forgive me for quoting Wikipedia, but I've known of this story for some time:
They had an idea to turn Pong into a single player game, where the player would use a ball to deplete a wall of bricks without missing the ball on its rebound. Bushnell was certain the game would be popular, and the two partnered to produce a concept. Al Alcorn was assigned as the project manager, and began development with Cyan Engineering in 1975. The same year, Alcorn assigned Steve Jobs to design a prototype. Jobs was offered US$750, with an extra $100 each time a chip was eliminated from the prospected design. Jobs promised to complete a prototype within four days.
Jobs noticed his friend Steve Wozniak—employee of Hewlett-Packard—was capable of producing designs with a small number of chips, and invited him to work on the hardware design with the prospect of splitting the $750 wage. Wozniak had no sketches and instead interpreted the game from its description. To save parts, he had "tricky little designs" difficult to understand for most engineers. Near the end of development, Wozniak considered moving the high score to the screen's top, but Jobs claimed Bushnell wanted it at the bottom;
Wozniak was unaware of any truth to his claims. The original deadline was met after Wozniak did not sleep for four days straight. In the end 50 chips were removed from Jobs' original design. This equated to a US$5,000 bonus, which Jobs kept secret from Wozniak, instead only paying
Another interested Tidbit, from the Wozniak link in the above article.
By 1975, Wozniak withdrew from the University of California, Berkeley and developed the computer that eventually made him famous. By himself he designed the hardware, circuit board designs, and operating system for the Apple I. With the Apple I design, he and Jobs were largely working to impress other members of the Palo Alto-based Homebrew Computer Club, a local group of electronics hobbyists very interested in computing, one of several key centers which established the home hobbyist era, essentially creating the microcomputer industry over several years. Unlike other Home Brew competitors, the Apple had an easy-to-achieve video capability that immediately created buzz and drew a crowd when it was unveiled.
So I do "think different"; I'd rather be a Woz, but get a little more credit and money.
This is assuming that I got the cash to afford such a concept, which I don't. However, I would love to reenact Mark Twain's four year long epic journey across North America, South America, Africa, Austrelia, Asia and Europe as recoded in his seven hundred and eighteen page autobiography Followinging the Equator. Following the Equator which Mark Twain published in 1897 depicted such an adventure. It would be nice if I had the cash to afford such an epic journey around the world. Oh well, some people have all the luck.
However, I don't think there is already a person out there, you just need to find them, kind of deal. I don't believe in fate. Nothing is predetermined.
I'd watch it.
Further away: Greece/Italy. I'd love to go to both (I'm Italian and think Greece is beautiful), however if I could only go to one I'd be okay with that too.
Indeed he would have had to use to hands to discover his own butt.
I have never been to USA. Id like to go there for about 6 months, with a limitless amount of money. USA needs me to show them where they are going wrong.
Obviously Id like to see some iconic images in USA, Route 66 and all that. But Id like just to observe American life.
