Writer's Block: In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue

Where is one new place you’d like to visit?
Oh god where to even begin. I have so, so many answers for this.*

Europe: France, Italy, England, Germany, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland...
My ancestors came from here; I am nearly half Irish with English, Scottish, German and who knows what else thrown in there. I would love to see the lands my family is from historically. Beyond that, I have always been fascinated with Greek and Roman history and mythology, so Greece and Italy are ideal destinations for me. I love seeing ruins of ancient buildings and imagining what the must have looked like brand new so very many years ago. (Yeah I know I'm cheating; I've already been to 6 countries in Europe, all of them listed here, but I was not quite 14 at the time, so going again would be akin to going for the first time. Sue me.)

Africa: Kenya, South Africa, Egypt...
I am mainly attracted to the amazing scenery and diversity of life here. I would love to go on Safari for weeks and take a million pictures of everything I meet there. I would also love to see how indigenous tribal people live versus my own comparably extravagant lifestyle (then feel bad about my excesses). As with Greek and Roman mythology, Egyptian mythology has long been a fascination. Seeing the Great Pyramids and temples of the ancient Egyptians would be a marvel.

Russia: St. Petersburg, Moscow...
Russia has a rich history, what with the czars and communist revolution and everything that's happened within the last hundred or so years. I would like to learn more about this country, since I know so very little about it now. I would ideally like to go in fall or spring, sometime when it's all covered in snow but not ridiculous degrees below freezing.

Tropical islands: Hawaii, Bora Bora, Tahiti, the Caribbean, New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania...
Lazing on pure white sand; swimming in warm, clear waters; hiking through thick tropical forest across mountains; stumbling across waterfalls hundreds of feet tall; spying birds and fish and mammals of every shape and color conceivable; this is my idea of heaven. I would especially like to visit New Zealand since they have so many diverse landscapes crammed into one small country.

America: Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, New York City...
From amazing wild scenery to the architectural marvel of city scapes, from great slopes for skiing and snowboarding to museums of art and history, from cozy inns with fireplaces to rough campsites in the woods, America has a lot of things to offer. We have histories involving so many other countries here with

Latin America and South America: Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil
As with so many other ancient civilizations, the ancient Incas, Mayas and Aztecs have often caught my interest. I have always loved reading about their ancient cities and temples whenever I caught word of them; it would be a delight to see them in person. I don't know much about their histories, and I'm sure learning about them where they once lived would be fascinating. I would dearly love to see the Amazon Rainforest before it is destroyed forever.

Antarctic and Arctic:
Just because they are so vastly different from the rest of the world, and spotting the special wildlife that live in these regions and capturing them forever on film (so to say) would be a delight.

*This is by far not an exhaustive list.

I want to see everything, everywhere. I want to taste amazing new foods and drink local wines. I want see famous landmarks and feats of engineering and hear stories about what happened there. I want to see traditional dances and hear foreign music. I want to learn new things and hear new ideas and be exposed to new ways of thinking. I want to wander foreign cities and get incurably lost until I make bumbling conversation with a local to help me find my way to my destination.

And I want to do all of this with Dan.

Writer's Block: Remembering Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs once said, "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." He inspired a generation to Think Different. How has the legacy of Apple's co-founder influenced your life?

He was not the first to say things like "Run your own race"... But that's not how things really working out if you are not a 100% isolated.
When you have feelings... When sometimes "running your own race" is not only drinking beer in front of the TV, as you maybe wanted to... But, perhaps -  Moving with your loved one to another land, just because he believes that's what you both should do. And because that will make him happy...
I am living someone else`s live all the time... But if that's my choice - then somewhere it comes to be my life... (I hope).
I mean... If not, It could be really too sad, couldn't it?

Writer's Block: In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue

Where is one new place you’d like to visit?

In May 2010 I had my first experience of discovering the world on San Salvador Island, Bahamas. This is what Columbus and I have in common, because I stepped on the same land as he had in 1492. My first plane ride,my first time snorkeling, swimming in ocean where I could see my toes... my first time being a foreigner in another country. At that moment, I knew what it was like to feel lonely, to feel like an alien, to not be able to relate to people, the food being different, to really appreciate the differences that the world has to offer me. I realized I did not know much at all about the world or its people...and that I was hungry to know hershey, which means everything in Turkish. This became my dream, to meet and learn from all of the people that I could, and to always show them all the kindness that I could possess in return.

In January 2011, I was in a troubled part of my life. I was feeling disconnected from everyone around me. I had found out my bf had been cheating on me, and I had just started at a new, bigger college campus. I was putting the final payment down for my trip to China when I met this boy. He was eavesdropping on my conversation to the Study Abroad office clerk over hearing me speak about going to China. He got my attention and mentioned how awesome it was that I was going to China. He was an attractive guy, and his accent caught me a little off guard. I asked him where he was from, and was very surprised when he stated he was from Venezuela. I went along my way, and bought myself some lunch. I was surprised to see Juan sitting by himself at a table. I invited him over to sit with me, and within 10 minutes found myself surrounded by a dozen other foreign exchange students from all around the world. I had an amazing time. All of the students were so friendly, I felt like I had known them all for years after only 30 minutes! I left that day with an impression that changed my life, I no longer saw them as a possible awkward situation or possibly angry people, I saw them as people who just needed a friendly smile to invite them to be your friend.  I made sure to always be patient when talking to them, and no longer saw them as different. I saw them as just like me & treated them accordingly.

Writer's Block: Freewill vs. fate

Is love destined or is it a choice?
It's difficult to reconcile the two but not impossible. Love is a choice an action you decide to commit to. Destined is different for everyone some are and some aren't. If you happen to be the some, than the choice to love is yours. Love never fails, love never seeks for it's own pleasures, love isn't easy but worth it when given or received.

Did you meet your significant other or best friend on LiveJournal? Tell us your story!
I met my fiance here on LiveJournal about two and a half years ago. I made the first move by commenting on his journal and messaging him my cell phone number telling him I felt a real connection, he made the crazy move of calling my cellphone, and our romance just blossomed from there. From the moment we first talked on the phone it was love at first... well... word. :)

We have been together constantly through good times and the bad for two and a half years now. Now we're happily engaged, and plan to be married within the next few years! Thanks Livejournal for connecting me with my soulmate. :)

Do you think there will ever be world peace?
No, I don't. I think no matter what we do, someone somewhere will f&@k it up. I honestly don't think we could stop fighting long enough to have peace, and if by some chance we do.....who gets to be the top dog, the ruler???  There will always be that power struggle, because the grass is always greener over there or the the sky looks bluer. Writer's Block: “We built this city on rock and roll”

What are your favorite song lyrics, and why?
OOOOH, this is a good one! There are so many but i dont know about LYRICS.
Blackbird-beatles. It's been that song thats always been a huge part of my life..
All the lyrics in Bright Eyes Landlocked Blues or also known as One Foot In Front Of The Other.

"If you walk away, I'll walk away
First tell me which road you will take
I
don't want to risk our paths crossing some day
So you walk that way, I'll
walk this way

And the future hangs over our heads
And it moves with
each current event
Until it falls all around like a cold steady rain
Just
stay in when it's looking this way

And the moon's laying low in the
sky
Forcing everything metal to shine
And the sidewalk holds diamonds like
the jewelry store case
They argue walk this way, no, walk this way

And
Laura's asleep in my bed
As I'm leaving she wakes up and says
"I dreamed
you were carried away on the crest of a wave
Baby don't go away, come
here"

And there's kids playing guns in the street
And ones pointing
his tree branch at me
So I put my hands up I say "enough is enough,
If you
walk away, I'll walk away"
And he shot me dead

I found a liquid
cure
From my landlocked blues
It'll pass away like a slow parade
It's
leaving but I don't know how soon

And the world's got me dizzy
again
You think after 22 years I'd be used to the spin
And it only feels
worse when I stay in one place
So I'm always pacing around or walking
away
I keep drinking the ink from my pen
And I'm balancing history books
up on my head
But it all boils down to one quotable phrase
If you love
something, give it away

A good woman will pick you apart
A box full of
suggestions for your possible heart
But you may be offended and you may be
afraid
But don't walk away, don't walk away

We made love on the living
room floor
With the noise in the background of a televised war
And in the
deafening pleasure I thought I heard someone say
"If we walk away, they'll
walk away"

But greed is a bottomless pit
And our freedom's a joke

We're just taking a piss
And the whole world must watch the sad comic
display
If you're still free start running away
Cause we're coming for
you!

I've grown tired of holding this pose
I feel more like a stranger
each time I come home
So I'm making a deal with the devils of fame
Saying
"let me walk away, please"
You'll be free child once you have died
From
the shackles of language and measurable time
And then we can trade places,
play musical graves
Till then walk away, walk away

So I'm up at
dawn
Putting on my shoes
I just want to make a clean escape
I'm leaving
but I don't know where to
I know I'm leaving but I don't know where to"

So...once upon a time there was this magical land of chatrooms called "Yahoo! Chat." Among these chatrooms was one called "On Broadway." In this place full of wonder and magic and musicals (and the occasional troll...who remembers the Prodigy kid? I know I still do! Dan and I were just talking about that recently, actually...lol) I met a horde of amazing people...including my husband. Later, many of those amazing people started on LiveJournal. Through the kingdom of LJ I met many more wonderful people...including some people I've been lucky enough to since meet and number amongst my good friends.

So...to Dan, and Amanda, and Lissa, and Alley, and Dana, and the Beths, and Karen, and...oh goodness SO MANY...this one's for you!

I'd like to visit Japan. I was born there in 1953, and always wondered what my birth land was like- The fly in this ointment is that the place where I was born was Sendai, which has been effectively removed by the last Tsunami. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi

If you could become a member of the opposite sex for just one day, what would you do?

This question is grossly oversimplified, to the point where it is effectively meaningless, HOWEVER: Let us say that I was changed from a sexually ambivalent person with male primary and secondary sexual characteristics to a sexually ambivalent person with female primary and secondary sexual characteristics. What merry madcap hijinks might ensue?
If I had no warning, I would probably assume I was hallucinating again and go back to sleep.
If I DID have warning, I would probably assume that the warning was an hallucination, disregard it until the change occurred and then go noisily insane, to the vast displeasure of all my associates.

Assuming that I managed to survive the initial shock and remained compos mentis, I would probably take the entire day coming to grips with the ramifications of the change, and be immensely relieved the next day.

This question would be better if the time were longer than a day, say, a month, or a year.

That’s why I’m here.

I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

Not LJ but I did meet my husband in an internet chatroom when we were living more than 2000 miles apart.

And LJ has let me keep in touch with my good buddy rensong.  We went to the same school in 9th grade for about 6 months before I moved away.  That was uhhhh.... 12 (13?) years ago and in that time we've been face-to-face 4 times but we communicate several times a week through LJ.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Yes I did meet my husband on LJ! He was looking for people to go on an adventure. I love adventures. He posted a really funny story to an LJ community which I ended up joining so I could read his posts and I didn't know until we were together that it was him who wrote that; he always makes me laugh and it's wonderful. There is a lot more to the story of course. There are many smiles and hugs and happiness.

Writer's Block: Take Two

In the next life, who or what do you think you’ll be reincarnated into?

I'll be one hundred years old on February 15, 2068. If I'm not already legally dead from natural causes before that date, I'll certainly be close to death close to that date. Few people have made it to one hundred and twenty years old. Nobody made it beyond the age one hundred and twenty. So if there are such a thing as reincarnation, I hope to reincarnate into somebody who is wealthy. I would either like to live in a giant sized houseboat or live in a multi-room suite at a luxury hotel. Heck, I would like to be the owner of the luxury hotel. I would live the expensive billionaire life without apology or regret. The reincarnation of me would do all the things that the current version of me hasn't been able to do such as find stable employment that doesn't implode, drive a car, use a credit card without having work hours collapse into nothing, own an apartment without sudden unemployment and go on vacation on the drop of a dime without problems. Did I mention that the reincarnation of me is wealthy. The reincarnation of me lives in paradise in comparison to the existence that I'm currently stuck with. However, I'm still stuck with this incarnation of me. I still need to eat, drink, sleep and move one foot in front of the other. The Great Recession has made me unemployed and I need to work hard to solve that problem. I'm convinced that a brighter future is still lying ahead of me.

I met my best friend when she moved to the Mary Bryant Home three months ago.  Our personalities clicked right away.  From the first moment we were around each other, we both already knew that we were actually meant to be the best of friends, who'd stick together.  Since that first day, we've bee doing a lot of stuff together, and we've been enjoying reading books together and even listening to Cubs games and MLB playoff games.

No. I met her at a Media Convention. Turned out not to be true according to her...makes me wonder who was telling the lie, I sure thought it was real. Well 20 wonderful years out of 23 isn't bad. Wish it could have been forever, but it was not meant to be. And honestly -- at my age -- outside of loyalty and companionship, there's not much more I look for in a relationship any more. And yet, I'm not down on 'love'.

I believe its out there for everyone, but I also believe you must let it happen in its own time. Rushing it out of desperation only hurts everyone involved because its only a surface love and doesn't run to the core of your soul. Be patient. Sure you may feel it for years, but eventually it wears thin. And you wind up hurting the person you clung to, who DID believe it was real.

Been there, done that, been the hurtee.    But I AM stronger for it. And I still believe in true love. I will always believe in it.   It just doesn't seem to be out there for me. At nearly 64, my ship was at the dock and I missed it. I wound up taking steerage instead of waiting for first class. LOL.

The moral of my story? A bowl of sweet succulent figs may look tempting, but sometimes it hides a viper. LOOK before you leap or make sure you carry anit-venom throughout your life.

Yes! The love of my life!

We "met" through both making comments on a mutual friend's music and movie reviews in 2006 on LiveJournal, when we were both living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We were both going through some bad times, personally and professionally, but shared similar tastes in entertainment. He decided to make a major change in his life, and moved to Arizona later that year, but we kept in touch through LJ and other social networking sites. I continued having health issues, then job changes. We both went through relationships with other people, ups and downs, but always came back to sharing our perspectives with each other. In January 2011, we started talking daily. He came to stay with me for a week in March, and we decided we wanted to live together. The first week of July 2011, he flew up, and we packed my life into my car and drove back to Arizona together. Our story is continuing happily; thanks to wyngarde and Live Journal.

Canada. I met her once, a beautiful country. I return to her again in a few weeks. I hope she will have me back.

Writer's Block: Share and tell

Did you meet your significant other or best friend on LiveJournal? Tell us your story!

No, I don't have a significant other at the moment. And the last one I had I met in the Zen Room, which is a chat room for Rocky Horror fans, in case you're wondering.

My best friend was actually the one who convinced me (along with my sister) to join LiveJournal, so I didn't meet her on here. Of course, she stopped talking to me eons ago, so I guess we aren't really best friends anymore.
