Writer's Block: Half full?

I'm more sardonic than anything else.
I really don't know why, but most things just don't seem to look up for me.
Just like if I were to jump off of a bridge, I would want to land face first to know when it's going to hit than face up. For me, there is no, 'enjoying the ride'.
Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?

Writer's Block: Merry Christmas

What is the best present you received this year?

Hmmm... I didn't have enough gifts :P but what I do like are the cash gifts given to me :P
but I would love it If someone really made an effort to choose a special gift for me. I like unwrapping things :) I love surprises! Aha! I remember someone gave me a lip color palette from THEFACESHOP. :)I can't deny it but I do love make ups :)

Writer's Block: Bare necessities

I'm not technically having a writer's block, but I figured I'd start off getting in the habit of doing these here and there already for some fun :)

Three things I can't live without...

1) A cat. I'm not necessarily saying Macbeth or Puck or Noah, because I know they aren't going to be around forever. but I know I'm always and forever going to want a cat around me. I'm going to be the girl who invites dates back, but "oh, watch the door, don't let my cat slip out when you slip out in the morning", and it'll protect my babies in their bassinets, and I'll probably be the crazy cat lady. But whatever. It's worth it.

2) A cell phone and a way to charge it (totally counts as one). So what, I'm a robot of my generation. I'm fully addicted to my cell phone. I could survive if it didn't have internet. But I need to have a connection to the people I love at all times. I get really antsy and nervous if I don't. So, even if I was on some deserted island somewhere, I feel like it would make me feel better just to have it.

3) Some way to make my breath smell better. Maybe because I'm sitting here and forgot to brush my teeth before bed. But I HATE not brushing my teeth or having a mint or gum or water or SOMETHING. Ugh it drives me nuts to feel like I'm breathing acid onto the poor saleswoman helping me buy shoes. Ha, Kevin doesn't brush his teeth often, and it secretly drives me nuts. After 6 months, I've just now started to say something about it to him. We'll see if he picks up...

Peace.

Name three things you can’t live without.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  Since this states "things" the only question that remains is; how specific should this be?  I am definitely not going to take this too seriously and be very general so.....

Situations vary but I would have to say:

Books,

knitting supplies- ie:yarn and needles,

a clock

Writer's Block: Half full?

It is really the situation for me. If it is for me and my situatuins I am a pessimist. Whenit somes to other people such as friends then I am an optimist . One of my Kenny said I must be a narcissistic which I didn't quite get I just think the worst of myself and I don't always trust myself even though in the end I always make a good decision its is usually other peoples  actions I fear I guess. When I talk to a friend I go to all lengths to reassure that they know they everything will be okay. I guess i am just really harsh when it comes to myself but in the end its worth it because things turn out good.:)

Just look up pessimist in any dictionary and you will see my picture :(  I am really trying to change, though.  I mean really trying to change, and I think I have made progress.  The scary part is, I see that trait in two of my three children.  See?  Pessimism...give me any situation and I will immediately give you the worst case scenario!  *sighs* I will be more positive.  I will be more positive ( rinse and repeat as many times as needed!)

Writer's Block: Winter vacation

Taken from Megan*

I really wanted to read complete the 50 books challenge (I actually had a goal of 60) but I didn't even make it to 20. I am rather disappointed in myself for this because I love reading, and I can get through an average-length novel pretty quickly, but I was just so busy this past semester and so stressed out with personal drama that I spent any precious free time doing as much nothing as possible. As disappointed as I am about everything that happened, the one thing I've learned this year is to stop beating myself up about shit that has already happened; it's still really hard, but I'm working on it, and I'm getting better.

So here's to looking forward to a new year, where I hope to learn from past mistakes, not repeat them. I'm going to continue my 43things project, even though I didn't blog or vlog about it much at all this year, or even really accomplish much (I did put a pretty respectable dent in the tv shows on the list, and I'm doing fairly well at learning that foreign language - got a B in my German class!); I'm not going to start over again, because the number one goal on that list is to graduate from college, and if that comes at the expense of everything else, I'm okay with that.

So in the coming year, I'm going to continue working on the list, re-try the 50 books challenge, and work harder at my weight loss. (I'm gonna be a bridesmaid in June and I refuse to be Fat Bridesmaid. I have no delusions of size 2 or anything, but I'd like to return to having a woman's shape as opposed to my current StayPuft marshmallow man physique.)
Share one thing you’d like to accomplish before the end of the year.

Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?

I'm an idealist, and a realist. I wouldn't call myself optimistic or pessimistic--I always worry that things will go badly, but that's not the same as anticipating it. On the other hand I don't blithely assume that everything will be okay. I do believe in being positive for as long as possible, and making the best of situations...but sometimes situations are just bad, and you need to be able to acknowledge the badness so you can deal with it.

Basically I believe that life happens, and you get on with it and do your best. Or, in terms suitable for cross-stitching and hanging on a wall: You can't control how much is in the glass, but you can choose to drink it anyway.

Pessimist, definitely. Really, I question the value of my life (and, naturally, those around me) constantly on a daily basis. It may sound slightly macabre, but looking at one's life from an objective perspective (which, admittedly, is nearly impossible to do anyways) may yield unexpectedly morbid results. I had to read Death of a Salesman for my English class a couple of weeks ago, and it made me depressed as hell. If everything we do (with the achievement of wants and needs) is done in an attempt to achieve happiness or some form physical and mental homeostasis, wouldn't a shortened lifespan seem logical? Think about it. Less life = less pain. Sure, the trade-offs may include achieved happiness and participation within familial and other personal and non-personal relationships, but I think that depends upon your values. Are pain and suffering truly compensated by "life's beauty," or is all that bullshit. As a pessimist, I'm sure you know my answer (...or rather, as a pessimist, I'm sure you don't know my answer).
Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?

Writer's Block: Half full?

over-all, i'm pessimistic. i'm not entirely sure if it's because i'm depressed or if it's because though i want things to badly get better/hope for the best/wish it'll all be good, there's always some negative thoughts in the back of my mind, truthful little details which indicate it's stupid to remain hopeful when everything is glum, that things won't always get better -- i even look at lively examples of those.

i hate to say that i'm bitter.

i hate to say that i've fallen to "the dark side".

but, truly, that's where my heart remains.

i'm a mess.

and though at times, i like to look throughout all aspects and say 'everything is fine'...

deep down, i feel like everything sucks.

i can't help but to feel miserable then.

is it so wrong to see beauty in tragedy?

Writer's Block: Half full? (Aka - A Ramble of Liquids and Glasses)

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather talk about the age old question 'Is the glass half-full or half-empty'. Luckily for me, the question of whether I'm more optimistic or pessimistic relates seamlessly to it. So, in answering the first question, you'll get the answer for the second. It's win-win :0)

I always look deeper into this question then is needed, so I have a simple and a long-winded answer for this question.

The simple answer: Neither.

The long-winded answer: I'm a realist by nature. A slightly more pessimistic-leaning realist, as my mother would argue, but a realist nonetheless. It's the question of half-full/half-empty that really gets me thinking. I'm probably spent more time debating this question with myself then was ever needed, but I've arrived at the conclusion that it's purely situational that the glass is half empty or not. If liquid has just been poured into an empty cup, then that cup is half-full. If someone has just taken a drink from a cup, that cup is now half-empty.

"But Torrie!" I'm going to pretend you cried, "What happens is you're presented with a glass that has liquid in, but it's impossible to tell if the previously mentioned actions have happened?"

In that case, the glass is simply half-filled.

This is Torrie signing off, mostly because I can't stand to read this slightly pompousy post any longer X0D

Likely I rank with the fictional Pollyana in the optimist department. Also been nicknamed "Molly Brown" (from the Unsinkable heroine of the same name) for my drive to MAKE it be so.

I have been much less so much of this past year. Suffering from dropping energy level, increased fatigue, weakness, and of late shortness of breath. However hopefully (here I go again! LOL) things are on the mend. The Power That Be sent me to the ER last month with "terminal" leg cramps (they would not succumb to my typical hot water shower head treatment) at bedtime. In the course of examination and treatment, the doc discovered chronic anemia... which would easily account for the symptoms which I did not realize were related to anything beyond aging and my doc did not realize the severity of....

After some time and fumbling around I have been prescribed an iron supplement and vit B12 and D, in addition to calcium (recommended by ER doc for cramps) and the magnesium I was already taking, had a colonoscopy yesterday and await the results. Had a unit of blood a week or so ago that did wonders for both my energy level (though the WANNA still exceed the CAN DO) and mental state. Amazing to me how much my energy level affects my feeling of depression.

Things will be brought back to MY normal in 2012.

Realist. "Candide or Optimism" by Voltaire is a fav. & "Bright-Sided: How Positive Thinking is Undermining America" by Barbara Ehrenreich. Optimism can leave you unprepared for the worst case scenarios. Keep moving. To each his own, but I think optimism is far more destructive than pessimism.

Christ on melba toast.

The goal of a Writer's Block question is ostensibly to prod people into writing. A multiple choice inquiry--without prompt for explanation or motivation--seems ridiculous. Today's question seems particularly feckless, given its facile A or B nature. Two whopping selections from which to choose. If I select the correct lever to press, will I then receive a food pellet?

In short: How good is a Writer's Block question, which can be properly answered with one word?

Writer's Block: Half full?

Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?

That's a really difficult question, I've been called both quite often. I suppose that I like to see myself as realistic. I'd say generally that my knowledge of history makes me more optimistic about the future of this country than most, although I suppose many would think that is because I'm cynical and a bit pessimistic. That is, I don't believe that things will get better because I believe in humanity, etc. No actually, it's because I believe in economic and political cycles. I don't think that the present, and the people in it are all that bad, mainly because I don't feel that the past was some golden age where politicians weren't corrupt and the rich weren't greedy.

In my personal life, I suppose that I lean towards being optimistic. My brain tells me that, "hope never triumphs over experience" but my heart tells me that the people I love won't, "let me down this time." Consequently, I'm disappointed a lot. But I'm also a gambler, and gambler lose often. I plant seeds every year earlier than I should, because some years the Spring is unusually warm.

As I said in my profile, the glass is half full if it's something I'm enjoying, and half empty if it's something like medicine.

My glass is usually half full these days but it take some effort and awareness of what exactly is going on to create positive vs. negative vibrations in my body ;)

Just from my little view of the world here, my glass is more towards half full the less I find myself reacting to bad news I read, or the less I dwell on certain world issues that I can not do a thing about except send good thoughts it gets better.

When my glass starts getting half empty i try to do something creative or yoga/meditation or something grounding, often even just getting outside or back to nature helps, or I turn to gratitude for what I do have. All of this is easier said than done of course, yet certainly worth it :)

I think saying 'optimist' or 'pessimist' implies that someone thinks better or worse of a situation, not necessarily realistically.  I say I'm a realist, which sometimes can seem optimistic or pessimistic.

That said, so that I'm not cheating the question, I think I try to make myself more positive than negative about situations, if only to keep from being depressed about it.

Edit: One more thing, using the phrase, "first world problems" does not mean that you are looking on the bright side, it just means that you an insensitive (insert gender free pejorative here). OTOH I've been thinking about first world advantages a lot lately, especially as I sit in a warm house, drinking hot coffee and contemplating a shower before work. And because half my metropolitan area is on vacation, my 45 minute commute today will be 20 minutes like it was been all week.

Writer's Block: Half full?

Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?
Is it half full or half empty? That's the question hu? Well I think of it has half full. So in theory, yes I am optimistic. I try to be as much as I can anyways. I am really not a negative person, I try to reflect on the finer things in life because there always is something to be grateful for. All too often I find people around me complaining about their job or how they wish they had a better car, or they don't want to go to school. Geha! A truly believe that Americans, myself included, are completely spoiled and ungrateful. We have no idea what we have in front of us and how good we got it. It will only become relative if and when something happens and we all find ourselves in poverty. Now I am not saying all people in America are like that, but general population is. I don't try to take anything for granted. I am personally happy that I have got what I got today. I am going to college, I got a car, I am feeling healthy, I got a job, and I know where my next meal is coming from. What else can I ask for?

I suppose when we get everything we want, it can become easy to not understand and forget what really matters. We live in a society where people wake up in their nice homes with comfortable room temperature. Its mind blowing how people can still complain....I guess if you start off living your life like this, then you really don't know any better, but what I am saying is that its important the we be taught to appreciate the finer things in life, rather than complain our food is cold.... Maybe one day people will learn.

I...don't know. It varies by the season, the day and the hour.

I like to consider matters from a number of perspectives, and I really enjoy finding a cheerful way to describe something terrible or a dark doomful way to describe something good. But the particular phrasing that I believe depends mostly on the whims of depression.

One would expect that I could answer that question better. CLEARLY I AM DEFECTIVE What a great opportunity to consider how I interact with the world!
